does the power steering pump need to come off to remove the AC pump?

rite ive undoene all the bolts on the AC pump, and removed the fan belt.

 

there are 3 long bolts on the front of the AC bracket, and one long bolt on the side

i think the PS pump has to come off 1st tho? is this correct?

 

or do i just need to appy a hammer to it to free things up

IIRC there are 5 bolts holding the A/C pump in place...

ive removed 4, i am yet to remove the star shape one iv read about, so i imgine thats the last one holding it in place.

 

is that round the back of the pump? ive removed the 3 on the front, 1 on the side,

There's 4 bolts and a stud with a nut on. IIRC you don't have room to take the compressor off the stud, nor room to take the stud out first. You have to undo the nut, then unscrew the stud and remove the compressor and stud together.

 

You can leave the power steering pump in place.

The nut is just a normal 6-sided nut, the stud is external torx. You'll need a socket similar to this:

Sorry, I can't remember the size.

 

removed it today, size is E10 torx.

 

pump came out easy, i dont know why people say you need to keep the bracket from the AC as the PAS uses it too.

 

the PAS has 2 braces connecting it to the engine anyway, its secure without the AC.
