Physics question - torque in a gyroscope?

Does torque have any effect on gyroscopic force? I've noticed on the bike that when rolling down a hill (in neutral) it feels a lot less stable than when rolling much slower but with power on slipping the clutch. Why? Is it in my mind or does the power make it more stable (hence turn in the road you have to keep power on!)?

Chris' link is a bit heavy for me on a Monday lunchtime, but could the perceived effect be due to the engine braking the rear wheel, which might make the bike seem a bit more stable. If it was a FWD bike, then maybe the effect of engine braking would make the bike seem less stable than merely coasting in neutral.

Isn't engine braking the same but opposite to power-on though? So the same question applies, why does that torque application make it more stable?

I'm not reading Chris' link, it boils my brain.
