Aftermarket/OEM flywheel and possible clutch replacement.

Hi all,

I probably have to replace the flywheel on my 6-speed '96 NA very soon. Or maybe some (or entire) clutch parts. It has been giving me some grief lately and an transmission expert told me that that might be the problem.

The question is: What should I replace the parts with. Should I go OEM or aftermarkt. I am going to do a NA -> TT conversion soon also. So are there any differences in these parts from a NA and a TT. If they are the same I could replace the parts this winter and if not I need to wait until the conversion project starts.

Tanks in advance.

The problem it's got is that when I put the clutch pedal down while driving in 1st gear or reverse, it makes a clunky noise once. Also shifting from 1st to 2nd aint smooth. To 3rd is way better and the rest of the gears go without a problem.

I'm having exactly the same problems. Is this definitely symptoms of the flywheel? I only fitted the V161 gearbox conversion a week ago and the flywheel looked fine before it went in. It was quite a low mileage one and there were no signs of wear etc...

What causes the clunking noise? Anyone know?
