Branners
So the quality wont be affected, but if it starts dropping the signal then the picture will get juddery? Got to be worth trying the cheap cable.
Ric
It wont get juddery no, HDMI requires the link to the synced with somthing called HDCP if your cable is damaged, or faulty it just wont work as the link will be broken Its on or off, no inbetween
Branners
okey dokey. Glad I asked as we dont use HDMI at work but are planning on fitting it in our next venue and will be interesting to see how well it works. I'm off to Argos now to get a couple of cables. Ric
O/T a little, but if you are looking into HDMI for venues you can send HDMI signals over Cat5 (for distance) check it out, http://www.cabletime.com/products/mediastar-evolution/ (Mediastar Evolution HD) We use it onboard the boat im working on and its class
merckx
A quote from the Which Magazine When Which? lab tested the following HDMI leads, the cheapest lead proved just as good as the most expensive: A £10 Tesco Value HDMI lead A £20 John Lewis HDMI lead A £100 Belkin HDMI lead Amazingly, our expert viewers saw no difference at all in the picture quality when using the three HDMI leads, with our technical tests confirming identical performances. We passed data through all our HDMI leads at 6.2Gb per second – a data rate more demanding than Blu-ray – without a single error occurring. The simple rule here is to save your money and buy the cheapest available. All HMDI leads have gold plated connecting pins and Which? testing has shown that you will not see any data loss even when using the cheapest leads. The most expensive HDMI leads could cost the same as your new Blu ray player, but it is totally unnecessary to spend that much.

We run VGA and S-vid over cat5 quite some times, cant beat a direct connection with VGA and video for reliability so we try and stick to that, but always use active input plates to ensure that any laptop that comes in will work. Not all laptops run the same power output in the VGA port so we build it to work with all. Have not had any call to use HDMI in any of the venues but it now comes as standard on the NEC NP905 and NEC NP3250 projectors so we may as well start building it in to the default spec. RobSheffield
I love the £100 cables with gold connectors. Makes my 1's really 1ish, and my 0's are definitely
MrRalphMan
If you can wait a few days that ones from 7DayShop are good value, but if you need to play now the Argos ones are a good bet.. Or even better, get the Argos one. Order from 7DS too and then take the Argos one's back.. Depends how tight you are really..
