Davey001 Posted November 7, 2010 Share Posted November 7, 2010 Hey all, I'm enjoying every bit of my turbo conversion apart from when the intercooler couplers warm up a bit they pop off or the pipe is blown out. I know I should have had a bead welded around the pipes but just wondered if there was any other way to stop them popping off? Lee_e Posted November 7, 2010 Share Posted November 7, 2010 happened to me a few times aswell... got very annoyed and took it to my local garage and they just put new clips on and all is well now might be worth investing in some new clips/tighteners and go from there, they also suggested about beeding the lip for more grip on the pipes etc but to be honest it was tooo much hassle. I have stainless T- Clamps on but the last thing I want to do now is start stripping all the pipe work back off to get them beaded!! Thanks for the advice! SimonB Posted November 7, 2010 Share Posted November 7, 2010 Nothing will hold without a bead or something on the pipes. If you have aluminium pipes then you would have to do the clamp up so tight it would bend the pipe to get it to hold otherwise. The bead doesn't need to go all the way round. You can do a temporary job by drilling several holes at the end of the pipe and using rivets - the bit of rivet that sticks out acts as a bead.
