sideshowbob
Green Day ROCK. Well they did in 1994 As did a few other bands in that era...ie: The Offspring, NOFX, Guttermouth etc. Green Day peaked with 'Basket case' & the lp 'Dookie', they will never better that, no matter how many cd's they sell. Don't get me wrong, they are still a rockin' band, better than 90% of the shite in the charts nowadays. They do seem, however, to have 'sold out' a bit lately, gone a bit commercial so to speak. Anyone remember 'The Dead Kennedy's', now there's a proper band! All IMHO you understand!
RedM
Ahhh, the Dead Kennedys. One of my favourite bands of all time. I'd put any one of their records up against most of the shite thats around these days. As for SOAD I've been watching and, IMHO, I'm not hearing much that I didn't hear in the early 90's after thrash metal looked to broaden its horizons. michael
hi michael , just watched it on ch4, not my cup of tea . reading the start of this thread , have you something to do with this band michael The CH4 prog was dire, too many ad breaks and the editing of 'naughty' words was stupid considering the time it was shown, since when did CH4 edit the word "needle" for stuff on at 1am? They are certainly an acquired taste and not for everyone I'm just a humble fan BTW Peter.
Syed Shah
SOAD rock, have seen them several times, and want to see themk again give how good their new album is. As for punk stuff, punk = political. Clash = proper punk. The nearest these days is NOFX I guess. Greenday/Offspring, good yes, punk? NO!
Jay
Mesmerize is a great album, Violent Pornography being one of my favourites. Hasn't got the raw energy of Toxicity, but it's a gem to listen to. I'm a diehard NOFX fan, and I loved their BYO split album with Rancid, two completely kick-ass bands singing each others songs doesnt normally work, but that album is pure class. I had an argument with my mates dad last weekend about whether Audioslave are better than RATM. He thinks the new vocalist is shit hot, but I think it all sounds REALLY whiny, and nowhere near as good as tracks like Know Your Enemy and Township Rebellion. Thoughts? Nice to see some people here that are into the more alternative stuff out there, I had a few of you pegged incorrectly
Syed Shah
RATM and Audioslave, not a apple-apple comparison. Both are amazing, its nice to see Chris Cornell do something else proper after Soundgarden. I prefer RATM simply because how diffeent they were, while Audioslave, however good, don't break the mould. RedM
SOAD rock, have seen them several times, and want to see themk again give how good their new album is. As for punk stuff, punk = political. Clash = proper punk. The nearest these days is NOFX I guess. Greenday/Offspring, good yes, punk? NO! Spot on with The Clash there. Not too sure about NOFX. I see their politics as being as daring as giving the finger to a cop while he isn't looking at you. If you really want a band who are passionate about politics and also happen to sound amazing I urge you to check out the Canadian band, Propagandhi. They have their music distributed in the US and Europe by NOFX's label, Fat Wreck Chords but any lack of similarity in politics is highlighted in FWC's decision not to include the Propagandhi song 'Bullshit Politicians' on a Rock Against Bush compilation. If you are at all interested in the reasons why, I suggest checking out Propagandhis news entry on http://www.propagandhi.com dated March 16th 2004. It highlights the differences between a band that is truly political in all its actions (Propagandhi) and a band that, IMHO, pays only lip service to politics (NOFX) To me, Propagandhi are one of the most politically active bands in existence. Probably far too radical for most people to accept on an ideological level but musically they are actually very palatable. They love their 80's speed metal and the odd guitar solo. Sorry for the long post but punk/hardcore is very dear to me and I can be a right anorak about it at times.
Syed Shah
Haha! No need to apologise, good post! Will check them out!
RedM
They are an amazing band. It took me a long time to actually admit to liking them. While I'm totally into their political views I did once describe them as Green Day with immaculate politics. It took me a while to live that one down especially as the only thing they have in common with Green Day is that their songs can be pretty catchy! I guess it was due to the fact that their singer doesn't do the usual hardcore shouting thing and the guitars riffs aren't of the heavy jud-jud-jud type. Anyways, I'll shut up now before I say something like RATM were liars and hipocrits of the highest calibre and we are better of without them. Purveying an anti-capitalist, anti-coporate message while being signed to Sony is like saying that you think cars are a redundant idea that is killing the environment but you need to drive an SUV to work because its the most timely and efficient way of getting there. Oops.

Once @ MK bowl, then @ Wembley arena (that gig rocked!). Fave song has to be L.A.P.D an absolute classic! Anyone remember...'Culture Shock'.....six foot rooms, another classic tune... michael
Just woke up from seeing Green Day last night - very good show, I still don't have much admiration for them technically but they have a fair few catchy numbers / classics and performed really well. MK Bowl is far too big for my tastes (I hate other humans) and the long walk to the carpark was a pain but it was a really nice experience and my other half (the huge Green Day fan) said it was the best she's seen them play so that's what counts.
