adi2009
Hi, Well last August i got (200 ltrs) of 100 octane fuel for my bike. Unfortunately i hardly got to use it all up as i have been travelling a lot this year. The fuel is stored in plastic cans. Is it possilbe that the fuel could lose a few octane points??? cheers
Jake
Very possible. Fuel starts going off in a matter of weeks.
kosmic
If its air tight then its usually ok for 1-2months MAX. As Jake said after that it will tend to lose power. We have experience of this in the British/Euro kart championships were our 2-stroke 100cc units rev to 21000 RPM, we use 100 octane fuel by Atol, which goes off after about 6-8 weeks even when stored air tight. adi2009
Could the octane rating be bumped up again by using some octane boosters???
kosmic
i think its more an issues with the consistency of the fuel rather than the octane. The chemical print of the fuel will change over a number of weeks, it may or may not affect your engine.
geoffvalenti
Blimey 200 litres of fuel would be gone in no time, especially if I was travelling a lot
