Josh
Mmmmm if thats the case, then how does it change to mute?? Call someone then put your finger over the speaker (at the top of the face of the phone not at the bottom) and the screen goes black You must be touching it with your ear before you cover the speaker

Josh
i'll give it a bash next time someone calls, I'm surprised you hadn't spotted it before. I think I noticed it when I made my first call on mine A valuable feature imo
SaqTRD
what version of firmware are you on? This was an issue with the iphone 4 and its proximity sensor. The sensor that detects that your ear is on the phone so turns off the screen. Its was too sensitive. so if you moved position of the phone a fraction, it thinks your no longer holding the phone to your ear and switches the screen back on. Then you cheek normally presses all kinds of buttons. Hope that makes sense
ADL Mark
The firmware updated didn't fix mine, every now and again the sensor still doesn't turn the screen off. Funniest report I heard when somebody called Apple about this issue - "Sir, your ears are too clean, it needs wax to reflect the light back in to the sensor"!
