Guest wantthatone
i guess some of you will have read that i have been sorting all the suspension issues, well i took the car in to set the tracking today, it was extremely out! so they set it all, half way down the road the steering wheel was off centre, took it back, they reset & test drove still the steering wheel off centre, i have put new alloys & tyres on, & the set that came off prior had new budget tyres fitted with no obvious wear as they were new , there under the impression the steering wheel needs to come off & be reset on the spindle straight, even though it drives straight, could this be an acceptable practice?? Swampy442
Could be, or you could adjust the track rod ends until the wheel is straight. How far off centre is it?
Guest wantthatone
hi swampy, im at my wits end, 3 of the guys have had a go now at doing the tracking, one says the cars bent! its not, i would say the steering wheel is say if you were looking at a clock 19:10 the car drives straight, i have found the wheel allignment download on here so i will be taking that with me on friday. i have found the remaining knocking is the shocks where they go onto the body (mounts)
Swampy442
If they cant get the tracking right it might be several things, the adjusters could be seized, the bushes could be shot, many factors. If you can get there and afford it, Wheels in Motion will sort you right out.
Guest wantthatone
the adjustments are working, all new bushes. i think give them one more go, then go down the steering wheel route eh?
Swampy442
I just looked at a clock and thats a fair way out lol. Only problem with the steering wheel method is how can you guarantee the front wheels are exactly straight? Might end up chasing your tail. Also if youve got an airbag take the battery off etc and read up on the airbag light reset procedure
Guest wantthatone
thanks swampy, they set the front with lazer lines with the back so there 100% sure its true, then the lazer from n/s/f to o/s/f was spot on, will i need to reset the airbag light after removal? i know you disconnect the battery, remove the plastic caps either side of the steering wheel, undo the grubscrews so that the airbag can be eased off with the horn pad, giving access to the 17mm nut. Guest wantthatone
well i took your advice & booked it in for a complete wheel geometry set up, the car was all over the place! the o/s/r wheel was at least 2 degrees out, so after a couple of hours setting it all back up again, the car sits straight, however some of the j spec settings were not available, but should'nt cause concern they said, on the test drive, the technician let go of the steering wheel & the car just stayed straight ahead, the steering wheel is slightly off centre still, but i think this has already been moved previously as the airbag issue dictates, all in was £73 i would rate having this done as tyre centres are not kitted to do it, just the thought of them setting the steering wheel while nothing was true is ludicrous. hanks swampy
