kornboy119
Hi guys, I have some very obvious shaking in my steering wheels once I reach 60mph and it gets worse the faster I go. Even at 90mph it is worse. The car has had tracking done to it and the wheels have been balanced about one month ago. The tyres are pretty new and the wheels seem fine in terms of curb marks just s few on the outer lip. Does anyone have any ideas what I could do? How are Supra's in terms of wheel bearings? Do they need changing often, and are they a common problem? Many thanks Dan
Animal
It's more than likely to have thrown a weight off one of the front wheels. Annoying if they were only done a month ago, but at least its an easy fix. Mine's a bugger for it and always seems to be the nearside front. I tend to need mine re-balancing a couple of times a year, I'd be better off gaffer taping the weights on, lol.
Swampy442
J spec brakes?
kornboy119
it is a 1998 NA J-Spec although I think it has the bigger brakes as I tried to put on my cousins old stock wheels from his 1995 NA J-Spec and they did not clear the breaks. Graham Read
my tt has the same problem i think it may be the wheel spacers out of centre or the wheel isnt sat on its spiggot rings to centralize the wheels on the hub ps try to find some one who can ballance the wheels on the car??? gazzi123
i have the exact same problem - turns out alot of play in steering rack + ARB links (anti roll bar links) + suspension seems to be on its way out. definatly check the ARB + rack. Many thanks Dan First thing to check is the wheel balance incase a weight has come off, you can also check to see if you have a sticking caliper by seeing if one of your front wheels feels hotter than the other. If both the above are okay then i'd start by checking for play in the suspension joints or steering rack joints.

If you use wheel spacers then they really should be hubcentric, then you cant have the wheel sitting out of center. I've never had a wheel balanced on a car and never had a problem. kornboy119
OK..... Done: - The ARB drop links seems fine to me and the rest of the suspension joints. - I don't have any spacers and I have spigot rings on the wheels. - I have taken the wheels off and put them back on and still nothing. Need to check: - I will check for sticky brakes callipers. - Will take it to get the wheels balanced. - I guess I should have a look at the steering rack too. Although I don't understand how it could be the problem. Many thanks for your help guys. I will let you know what the problem is once I find it! Cheers Dan
jimwire
When I had this it was a binding rear brake caliper.
