Dr_Doom
Following on from this thread; http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=232324 I'm in need of a set of J-spec turbos, or at least the 2nd one. Can anyone help? Thanks, Rob.
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
you do know you can swap cores so either turbo is fine..
RobD
I may know someone with a spare set of tubbies, I think one of the turbine fins is chipped on one though! Any good? I'll get in touch with him later once I've finished work

Jurgen-Jm-Imports
I didn't know that. Is it a specialist job to swap? not really but i would say that, (any comptent mechanic can do it just make sure when you remove the casting you dont damage blades).. we have done it before and it works.. i have some turbos here some have very small chips on blades..(if you cant find any that is) as last resort. Hoppy
I also used an old 2nd turbo as a replacement first turbo, and it worked a treat. The fins were chipped on both my turbo's, but they still lasted ages. Although they did go in the end, hence my single turbo conversion.
Dnk
Like jurgen said, it's not ideal but if he keeps at a sensible boost they will be ok and get him out of a tight spot I was just thinking of the labour involved in fitting and removing them, personally i'd rather do it once. Dr_Doom
Good luck with getting this sorted Rob Thanks Dunk! I know what you're saying about not wanting to do the job twice. Trying to find a set of perfect condition J-spec ceramic turbos is a bloody nightmare though Especially as most of the cars are 15years old now. I think i might have to make do with an 'ok-ish' set for now, as long as the seals are ok and they don’t smoke. It's very rare i get to run the car on full boost at the moment as there aren't any big roads near me and also the weathers likely to be crap for the next few months. Carl
you should of seen my turbo blades after i removed them. Id say about a third of some of the blades were missing yet the car ran fine and pulled like a train at 1.2bar. hopefully itll pull like two trains when I put the replacement ones in. To be fair, i bet that most people running J-spec turbos have chips in them and never even realise. 15 year old turbos & fragile ceramic blades aren't a great combination.
