One for the RC Heli guys! - My first big purchase

Well, I've finally decided to take the plunge after mulling over it for quite a while! I bought myself a Futaba FF9 transmitter the other day which should be here tomorrow, now I need to find myself a Heli!

I'm pretty much set on a Trex 500, the only issue seems to be getting hold of one! I would like something already built with qt the very minimum the stock gyro and servos etc, but ideally with something like the Futaba GY401 unit already on board! Some lipos wouldn't go a miss too!

Does anyone have any tips or know anywhere I might be able to get hold of one? I've been trawling eBay and the BMFA.co.uk website for weeks and keep missing out! I'll just have to keep flying my blade mCX and mCX Tandem until I can get one.

Cheers

Dan

Congratulations Dani.

Just don't forget the training skids and keep its low for the first few flights.

Many thanks :-) I'm having trouble finding a decent 500 at the moment but my friend has a mini Titan with all mod cons for a nice price. Do you think it will be ok for me compared to the 500? I'd like something that will be good for a while.

IMHO the bigger models have some major advantages and disadvantages too.

Obviously the larger, the more expensive.

Thats applies to replacement parts too.

Bigger models seem to less prone to wind and more stable.

Smaller models are easier to set-up, fix and maintain.

orientation is much easier with the bigger models and predicting their behaviour.

IF you can afford it, I go with a larger sized model.

IF your not confident and foresee a few crashes and repaires, go small.

As for the model lasting. They're equally as good.

Some parts need replacing such as feathering shafts and bearings, but generally these models will keep flying for as long as you need.

I have a large Robbe mosquito petrol that still flies today and its nearly 20yrs old.

Very good choice going with the t rex 500, I love mine and will never ever sell it.

It's all in a align metal case, with my spare tx, dx6 (just for this heli) and lipo's so I just put it in the van and fly whenever I get a spare half hour.

They do sell quick, however I reckon now the t rex 550 is out they may drop a bit in price. My mate had a 500 for sale so i just phoned him and his sold it today!!
