RobSheffield
I have an ipod with lots of songs on it, and a new iphone. When connecting the ipod to itunes, it shows all the songs on the ipod, but none 'in' itunes. So if i connect the iphone to itunes it isnt going to load them. If i synch the ipod its going to give me an empty ipod Is there a way to remove the songs from ipod, into a windows folder to be 'added' to my iphone? Lots of 'i's there, sorry! Steve
Try using a third party bit of software like - http://download.cnet.com/iPod-to-Computer-Transfer/3000-2141_4-10665647.html Once copied from the ipod you should be able to then add them to your iphone through itunes. PS. I haven't tried that software
Nic
Does it not give you the option to merge the files when you sync?

RobSheffield
Do you still have the computer that contains all of the songs on the iPod?? Yes, i have lots of the MP3's, but then i bought some of the songs on my ipod touch, and they are not in the purchased section. I have a feeling i may have changed PC's since i first loaded all the songs though, so im going to quickly check

Guest geee
CopyTrans is amazing. I was in pretty much exactly the same situation as you and wanted music off the ipod =P I didn't want some crappy, hard to navigate software so trust me when I say this thing is awesome. Be aware it will only transfer 100 songs on the trial version... it was so good I actually bought the full version, in case I ever need to use it again. Very highly recommended. Check it out, http://www.copytrans.net/

Matt H
Same thing when I went from my Nano to an iPhone. I was told about a method that involved copying all the songs in their weird iPhone naming format from the hidden folders on the Nano onto my computer, then importing them back into iTunes. It worked for most of them, but some got lost in translation. Play lists and ratings were lost too. I haven't come across an impeccable solution for this issue yet though. Most people will come across it if they have music on their phones that didn't come from their own library or iTunes and want to upgrade devices. My I add, I hate iTunes, it’s terribly non-user-friendly.
