Front HID change - diagram and method

Hey all

I have tried google and search here, but can someone link me to a good method with diagram to change my UK Spec front HID please? Do I need to remove the battery and the whole headlight? Surely not?

Also, can you buy HID bulbs on their own? I only need the passenger side.

Thanks in advance for this

What is it you are trying to replace, just the bulb?

If it is the HID ballast units then it depends on where they are currently mounted and where you want to mounts your replacement ones. I took out both my headlamps and place both the ballast units underneath them. Found it easier to work with them both out and plus it is only 3 screws! ;)

I hope it's not the unit. The two other lights work - just not the bulb. So I need to replace that, me thinks

Swap the working bulb to the non working side, that will tell you if it is the bulb or the ballast pack at fault. You can buy replacement bulbs in pairs.

You don't need to remove the headlights, just move/remove stuff behind the headlights so you can get access to the bulbs. Very easy to do if a little fiddly.

Boys I have just took the bulb out

All it says is 35w 8000K 9006z

Should I be going for H3 or H4 or something different

The 9006 is the bulb type. 9006 and HB4 are exactly the same (just different codes used in different countries).

See HERE for full details.

I think you need 9005s mate. Check out the link above

On topic, I have just tested the bulb in the OTHER ballast and no go. I didn't want to take my air filter off, so I compromised. On for a second and then out. Same in the passenger ballast. Ergo... I have my finger's crossed. Plus I will now have a spare :)

Well, replaced them but I am not sure I have 8000K lights now. One seems slightly more blue than the other. BUT it does say 8000K on the light and the one I have just received is also 8000K. Should I have swapped both?

Proud of my first bit of car DIY... full turbo rebuild next. Okay, maybe not ;P
