Guest stancartmanson
Hi I recently purchased my first Supra, it's a 93 JZ80. My aerial was misbehaving (went up, wouldn't retract without my assistance) so I ordered one from antennamasts. It arrived within 9 business days and works great. I think there might be a piece of the old aerial still in the motor though, the old aerial's inner plastic is shorter than the new one (and lacking a pointy end suggesting it snapped), and when the new aerial is down it still sticks out about 3 or 4 inches. I'm thinking this is the whole reason the old antenna wouldn't retract in the first place. If this is the case, is it hard to get the old piece out of the aerial motor? I had a look and it seems I only need to remove a small panel in the boot (trunk) with 3 screws to access it. I coudn't see how I would have to unattach/open the motor though. I just want to confirm that this is the problem, and if it is I'd like to be prepared for a tricky job. Thanks!
Chris Wilson
You need to take the side cover off the aerial motor and get the last bit of tail out. Fiddly but not rocket science.
comorin219
did you just buy a replacement mast? if so it just maybe too long to fit into your existing motor,& therefore wont close fully

Sweet as, was worried it would be a drama. Thanks!

Pretty sure that's why I was having troubles in the first place, the old antenna is in good shape apart from that.
comorin219
not sure you can cut them down to fit, when you buy the mast only it has to be the right one for the Supra, not a Toyota multi fit, ie if you buy one for a Celica it will protrude around 3-4"

Guest stancartmanson
Looks like I'll have to open the ant. motor to make sure. If there's nothing stuck in it, is there something I can do to make it go all the way down? Cheers
comorin219
Not sure there is, never tried it, but they are quite easy to take apart, maybe you can measure the new one up to the old to confirm its just too long.I remember someone selling them on Ebay saying they were replacements for The Supra but he stated in his description that they dont go fully down
Guest stancartmanson
Hmm.... it could be one that doesn't go all the way down. I'll have to see if the old plastic is in the motor and then measure it. If the new one is indeed longer, I'm not sure if I want to risk cutting it.... comorin219
check it out, if its too long just use it until you can get another 1.
Guest stancartmanson
Where's a good place to get one that's properly sized?
comorin219
probably best to get the whole unit, come up frequently on Ebay, sometimes on this forum, depends on cost of postage & if people are willing/ able to send to you. Do you have any Supra forums in Australia, you could post in the wanted forum, &see what turns up
