VERY SERIOUS HOAX (that I fell for)

I do this all the time! I guess I won't be doing it ANY more !

A person was recharging his mobile phone at home.

Just at that time a call came in and he answered it with the charging Instrument still connected to the outlet.

After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the floor with a heavy thud.

As you can see, the phone actually exploded.

His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers.

He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Cell phones are a very useful modern invention.

However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death.

Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet! If you are charging the cell phone and a call comes in, unplug it from the charger and outlet.

FORWARD THIS TO THE PEOPLE THAT MATTER IN YOUR LIFE!!!!

Whether or not they have a cell phone. They can also inform others who do......

Most phones charge at 5-7 volts which wouldn't cause that damage hence the snopes

My brother had a cheap mp3 player off Ebay explode on him, Took the tip of his nose off. The capacitor acted like a detonator/charge and the aluminum case of the player acted like a frag grenade. True story

Good ol' Snopes. ;)

Here's my favourite bit:

Could they be more melodramatic if they tried? Mobiles are dangerous in the same sense that a spoon is dangerous. People have died from spoon-inflicted injuries in the past.

Remember kids, don't do drugs or indulge in mobile telephony.

Karoline, it's neither true, nor possible.....

Oh wait, that's not entirely accurate. If you crocodile clipped a lead directly from the mains and THEN picked up your phone, yes, it would be possible to do that sort of damage.

The reason there is a big square bit on the plug of a mobile phone charger is to fit the transformer which switches the 240v AC current to 5v DC. It would be very difficult to get 5v DC to hurt.

I say that this thread should be deleted. We are now going to have some of our less "sharp" members trying to hurt themselves with a moble phone to prove it can be done.

On a side note, if I filled the phone with petrol and charged it, would it explode??:D

What if I was also smoking at the time?

Oh and WHO changed the thread title with asking ME first....
