Will someone check my tp server is now working?

Yes, I think it's working now, I had CNAME instead of A in the record. Target address is static, so that should be OK.

Anonymous users are limited to /home and its sub directories, but if I put a link to

ftp://ftp.chriswilson.tv/home/argo.jpg

it doesn't work, yet argo.jpg is in the /home directory

ftp://ftp.chriswilson.tv/argo.jpg does work

Why's that then, please?

Also, if I try and reach my ftp server from the machine it's runningon by going into Mozilla and typing

ftp://ftp.chriswilson.tv

I get logged into my router management screen. Is that normal? It's a Netgear DG834 none wireless.

Thanks for your help.

But you are limited to the /home directory and it's sub directories I hope!!

You can't delete or alter files, nor upload any, can you!!

I am now worried :)

Hi Chris.

Basically anything you put in /home on your HDD will be seen as Root on the server. In otherwords, you don't need the /home.

By typing in ftp://ftp.chriswilson.tv/home/argo.jpg you're actually looking for a file on your hdd calle /home/home/argo.jpg (if that makes sense!?)

The FTP server will not let you access other files on your drive unless you ask it to.

The reason when you try the link locally it goes to the router is an interesting one. From the outside anything that visits your IP address on port 20/21 gets forwarded to the internal PC running the FTP server. From inside the network the router is picking up the request...will have to ponder on that one.
