The Raven
The one day they are needed more than ever and they are set to walk out over planned change of hours. I for one think that is just awful.

Josh
It's good that they're making a stand because they say the cuts will affect how many people they can save. I don't respect them for striking on bonfire night though.
Purity14
They are at it again eh? Remember when the army came putting fires out in there little green-mobiles? God help us if they do that on bonfire night, traffic will be horrendous
TLicense
I think they should absolutely be striking on Bonfires night. What's the point of striking when no-body needs you? Go on strike when you're needed the most so that you've got the most leverage. If the government don't like the idea of having little fire service cover for that particular day, then they should agree to their terms. Abz
Surely that is blackmail? That is one day that they will be heavily needed! Its not like a Tube strike where they Pi$$ everyone off just because they don't get a 5% pay rise in the recession, that is just an inconvience. This endangers lives and surely not worth people dying for them to change work hours.
movistar
My brothers the Governor at Chelsea....there's more to it than the media are letting on. If you all knew what is going on behind closed doors you would all do the same...F*cking government trying to save money again, but have no real idea or care how they affect the average working man. Shame they don't look into there own pockets to find some extra funds.....to busy fiddling there tax returns i guess!!

Tom S
but as is stated this is what a Strike is all about, hitting the people who pay the wages where it hurts. I for one have a few freinds who are firemen and do not think them paid enough for what they do. don't take me into the debate about other things, boils my pi$$!! We should look after our people and not people trying to get in or stay in, kick them out look after what you should be. Get scroungers back into jobs etc etc etc Sorry for Rant
Swampy442
They are at it again eh? Remember when the army came putting fires out in there little green-mobiles? Wasnt just the Army What better way to get your point across than strike on the 5th. Its about 12 hour shifts, 5500 staff getting layed off and other factors
Purity14
I for one have a few freinds who are firemen and do not think them paid enough for what they do. Id like to agree with that statement. And also, where you said something about scroungers working, id like the sound of that too, yet nothing seems to be getting done about it. As per usual. Shame they don't look into there own pockets to find some extra funds.....to busy fiddling there tax returns i guess!! I wouldn't be surprised, you know how the media works. I don't understand what they do with all the money, we guestmated just in our IT department alone (50 people), every month we give £40,000 in taxes. That works out to to nearly half a MILLION a year! Now that is just our IT Department, now if you imagine all the businesses and people in Employment, VAT, Council TAX, Road TAX, Water TAX, TAX TAX surely something is going wrong if all of this keeps running out. Now we only have 800 employee's in London & if on average they gave £800 a month taxes (I am sure the lawyers pay much higher) then that works out to £640,000 a month which works out to 7.6 MILLION a year from just one firm! I don't even want to imagine how would be have been paid while I was in Deloitte, they now have 10,000 employee's in the UK! Sorry rant over (Feeling in quite a ranting mood today)

Havard
Unforgiveable to strike on Bonfire night. If I was a fireman, no matter what the situation it is the one night were most people are injured or killed. I would not want blood on my hands.... Surely some sort of long term strategy and dialogue is the way forward, not striking..!! H.
supraturbochris
its unbelieveable. I have alot of respect for what they do. And yes the government does need to pay them better wages, but so do police, doctors etc. But to go on strike when needed the most is a joke. imi
Strikes - one of labours great legacy's and the crap that we are in one of their very best. About time people realise that we are living through tough economical times and that changes are inevitable whether we like it or not. the days of being spoon fed need to come to an end.....this welfare state is on borrowed time. I don't necessarily agree with every measure that the Govt is taking to keep expenditure in check however applaud them for trying. imi

I don't even want to imagine how would be have been paid while I was in Deloitte, they now have 10,000 employee's in the UK! Sorry rant over (Feeling in quite a ranting mood today) Yes its shocking but pretty much every penny in all INCOME TAX goes on the welfare state, benefits, jobseekers, disability, housing, council tax relief, bills, etc. All our services and public sectors are paid for by indirect taxes (Fuel, VAT, N.I, smoking, alcohol etc). When you see that stat. you can see why the government cannot afford to give the fireman let alone anty other public sector a pay rise or decent working hours for their current salary. It just goes to show how quickly and how badly our economy has suffered under labour and how much more it will suffer under conservative (I ignore lib. dems as most of the government does anyway) I think we as a country should all suffer a little for the greater good and a quicker end to our spiralling debts and huge daily interest repayment which AFAIK is 120 million GDP daily!!!! So cut public sector, hold back on private sector raises (but invest in companies all the same to promote growth and employment opportunities). Reduce welfare and seriously punish benefit cheats/abusers. Get banks lending again or charge them for not lending at least 10% of their net worth every year. I'd rather a short sharp shock as long as it doesn't cause a double dip recession than a long drawn out period of b*llshit where the economy grows at a snails pace and we lose out globally to the far east and america. Ohh long post, can you tell my membership is up for renewal.
