colmcork
Hi guys, I have searched this (in the limited time I had over lunch) but am still none the wiser. Can I simply swap over the 'open' diff on my '95 j-spec auto TT car with what I am being told is an lsd from a manual TT car circa '96/'97? Unknown if it is off a uk spec or not but am being told that it has an oil cooler on it. I am intending on swapping casings and not just internals. In fact I have been offered the entire rear sub-frame with diff, hubs etc.
pedrosixfour
Here is a link to a picture and a brief description of the two types of diff that were used in the Supra. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=2777763&postcount=12 Then depending on whether it's a small cased diff you are hoping to fit, which would be good, you can work out if the final ratio of the diff is a good match for the auto box in your car from this: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=225050&highlight=calculator
Terminator
The auto diff has a different ratio from the manual. Use this to see what it will do to your car, http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=225050
dude
The caseing is a diff size if the new diff has an oil cooler it is either a UK spec auto or an early J spec 6 spd, the prop rear section is shorter and theb left drive shaft is different. colmcork
Thanks for the replies guys:thumbs:. Using the conversion table it seems the gearing will be quite a bit longer and I assume cause my supe to feel slower going up through the 'box. Not too pushed to fit it then if thats going to be the case. I am also thinking this might put slightly more strain on my autobox which I certainly dont want. Do you guys know of anyone off the top of the head who is driving a TT manual L.S.D ( large casing ) with a TT autobox? Both j-spec. I guess if I decide not to use it I should be able to sell the diff on...
dude
Sorry I miss typed that last reply. If the it has an oil cooler it is either a UK auto or 6 spd not a J spec 6 spd ( diff ratio's) either way its nort a direct bolt in for a j spec auto. The car will just feel slower.
colmcork
Big thanks for the help guys:). Terminator thanks for the pm. I wonder if I should just go ahead and take this sub frame anyway as it seems the diff is from a UK TT six speed. Surely someone on here will need taking out of a tight spot with one of these at some stage.
