Jellybean
Is this Correct for doin a Compression Test, some threads contradic one another Halfords Compression Tester tool will do? Disconnect Fuel (EFI Fuse or Ignition Module)? Take out all spark plugs or do one at a time with 5 always remaining? Hot engine? throttle fully open for every cyl? Good Battery Results to be Expected Standard pressure: 1,079 kPa (11.0 kgf/cm2, 156 psi) or more Minimum pressure: 883 kPa (9.0 kgf/cm2, 128 psi) Difference between each cylinder: 98 kPa (1.0 kgf/cm2, 14 psi) or less 189 -190 on most engines that are in tip top condition And each Cylinder is very close to one another no big differences Missing anything? DannoSupra
Dont think it makes much of a difference if engine's are hot or cold. But yeah, believe that is correct, well correct procedure, not sure on figures!
Jellybean
Found this too http://www.turbosupras.com/pdfs/JZA80%20TSRM/EM%20%282JZ-GTE%29.pdf hmm Cam Shaft position Sensor Anybody know how to disconnect the Cam Shaft position Sensor Edited October 26, 2010 by Jellybean (see edit history)
Tricky-Ricky
A compression test is only an indication of cylinder health, a leak-down test will give a more comprehensive result. All plugs out. Throttle fully open. EFI fusees out. Good battery. Make sure you turn the engine over the same number of times for each cylinder, at least 6-8. Edit, there is no need to disconnect the CPS, the fuses will stop fuel entering the cylinder, which is enough. DannoSupra
You should get any going in, at the end of the day, pressure will blow it all out anyways - if its got good compression that is
SteveC
I always thought that the engine should be hot. A hot engine certainly gives higher readings...
Dnk
With all the plugs out, what ablout debris getting into the Cylinder? Before you remove the plugs use the airline and blow all round them, then there wont be any debris
Guest AlexTC
Hello there. i know this is the old post... but ive done my compression test today on my 2jzge and all of them were around 190-180 but number 6 one was 100.... what can be wrong? thank u
Chris Wilson
Hot, throttle fully open, all plugs out, similar number of cranks per test. But a leakdown test is *FAR* more meaningful and useful.

A leakdown test would tell you just *WHAT* was up, hence why they are much more useful... You might just check the valve clearances haven't closed right up on number 6, which is highly unlikely, so unless that's occurred you might as well start pulling the engine out.
