Aerial alternatives

I've been thinking for a while that I'd like to remove the standard radio aerial from my Supra. I think it looks untidy. Ideally, I'd like a completely hidden aerial but no loss of reception.

My mate's dad used to have a Honda with the aerial in the rear window glass (I expect other cars have this too...), which is what I was going to try to replicate as best as possible. I've had a look on here but couldn't find anyone else who's done this. I looked on SupraForums and found this thread:

I'm particularly interested in posts 9 and 11...

Post 9:

I have a "hot rod" antenna hooked up. It plugs into the back of the stereo/head unit just like the stock antenna wire and is mounted under the dash board. I get ALL radio stations just as clear as I did when the factory antenna was up. I'll get the brand and price from my audio guy since it was his decision to do this antenna.

I assume this means 'inside' the dashboard so you can't see it at all. Has anyone else used this sort of aerial or know where I can get one? Wouldn't the reception be $#!£ with it under/inside the dashboard?

Post 11:

There is an extra antenna in your hatch glass. It is in there but not used in US cars... as long as you have the factory rear glass, it has a built in antenna but uses the little GM plug.

Does anyone know if this is true? And would my J-Spec RZ have this 'built in antenna'? If so, what is a GM plug?

Sorry for the essay...

You should have one, I haven't looked for it on mine but others have said that there're 2 plugs in the wiring harness behind the head unit, one for the standard aerial and the other for the one in the rear window glass.

S2000 stubby? a new group buy is about to start 1st of november

I've seen these, but I'm not a fan. I'm quite fond of everything being tidy (which I realise my Supra really isn't just yet!)... I think the S2000 aerial is still too untidy for me.

Cheers for the suggestion though :)

>Implying that Steveos Aerials are Untidy?

I for one think that they look really OEM, and will be getting one myself, it is the best modern alternative.

Sorry, no offence intended! I guess it's just not to my taste, that's all :)
