j_jza80
what is one? asume you dont mean a boost leak tester! For testing compression in the cylinders
Scott
Quite a few of us will have compression testers but leak down testers might be harder to get your mits on. Is the car dead? Would taking it to a local garage not be an option?
Tricky-Ricky
A leak-down tester consists of two gauges linked in such a way as to feed a constant pressure to a cylinder, and monitor to lost pressure differential, which gives a pretty good indication of the state of the cylinder/ring seal and the valve/seat seal. Far better than just a compression test, as it gives a constant loss figure, rather than a accumulation of cylinder pumping capability. Oh! and its not too hard to make one if you have a couple of decent gauges lying around;)
Dnk
A leak down test pressurises each cylinder and gives you a percentage that the cylinder is leaking by, also lets you diagnose if the air is escaping via the inlet valves, exhaust valves or piston rings As above
