Kirk
Ever since having to deal with yet another dog dying of illness this year and after much thought and a quiet house i figured it was time for a new one so here she is http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs813.snc4/69314_485538277213_584057213_7089525_5271908_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs774.snc4/67403_486034352213_584057213_7095683_1322519_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs460.ash2/73307_486448572213_584057213_7100652_1018283_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs904.snc4/71709_486448722213_584057213_7100655_5126775_n.jpg Not the best pics but they will do for now She is called Tia, shes an akita, 16 month old, beautiful looking dog, and very well tempered now that she has settled down. Admittingly it hasnt been a walk in the park getting her settled in. I picked her up from the dogs trust in liverpool, shes been there a long time and her back story isnt the best but she is settling in nicely now, still very nervous of her new surroundings but im sure it will pass. MARTIN R
Nice one, we are now considering getting another dog. We lost ours in February and feel the house could do with the destruction again:d

Kirk
Thanks for the comments When i originaly read her file she sounded like a viscous killing machine, wasnt convinced of it and i was right although she is very unhappy when strangers come knocking, i put this down to lack of socialising at a young age. She does manage to get her self in a bit of a state when people invade her personal space but it will pass in time i hope
Supra-Brett
Nice dogs, beautiful looking but with a bad reputation for savaging their owners. They are my favorite dog I would love one, but no so sure about the reputation.
Kirk
Nice dogs, beautiful looking but with a bad reputation for savaging their owners. I totaly disagree, she is a great companion and she know's her position in the household. I put it down to the owners either being to soft with them or not training them correctly. You cant show weakness with this kind of dog or they will take advantage of you.

Chris Wilson
My wife and I met an owner at a local fair this summer with an Akita that had a parrot and a macaw on its shoulder at various times, and was off lead amongst dozens of other dogs, horses, the local hunt and dozens of kiddies. I also know of one whose whole purpose in life is to become the only male dog in the county, and its record is pretty impressive in that regard. Personally i think they are beautiful looking animals, but i don't really trust them very much Good luck with her, hope it all works out well this time! Kirk
Cheers guys As said she is a fantastic dog. I'm well aware of the breeds background and believe me when I read the file I was put off. Personally I think there was a lot of exaggeration going on as she is very calm and tame in the house. The only thing I need to address is here social skills due to her poor upbringing. Not really socialised so she gets very wary of her surroundings and should one come to close she gets upset and backs away barking. Its going to take some time but I'm confident she will become a lot calmer and comfortable on her walks and er surroundings. Its all new to her having spend most of her life at a rescue centre. jevansio
She looks superb, as other have said it's a breed the scares me, even the look of them when they're stood they look so proud (and evil), then again a lot of people would be scared of our Shar Pei at first sight/meet but he's just a big softie, I guess we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and let a few bad cases spoil our judgement
JustGav
Nice looking animal, stay on the right side of the pack control and you with some good skills will make sure she will turn out to be a lovely member Good on you for going the rescue route, definitely is a bit of a challenge but the rewards are great. JustGav
Nice dogs, beautiful looking but with a bad reputation for savaging their owners. They are my favorite dog I would love one, but no so sure about the reputation. Thing is, people say that about most dogs. I look at the two I've got, one GSD bitch and mutt dog (staffy, pitbull, some random terrier I think in there for extra measure) smaller than the average staf, he is definitely less likely to push his luck with and not 'ignore' me sometimes, whereas the GSD sometimes forgets her place, HOWEVER I feel he is more likely if it came down to it be a nastier piece of work. Don't get me wrong he is a lovely dog and very well discipled with all family members. She however for her size and breed is more than likely to just roll over than do anything. Phoenix and I play rough but all I need to say is 'ow' and he instantly stops and if it his blanket we are playing tug with, he will bring it over to me and leave it at my feet until I call him. Kirk
Well i had good luck with my last dog with the soft toy route. Basicly replacing my arm with something else but she knows not to bite, she is suprisingly obedient and knows when she has done wrong.
