Laser jammer != jail!!!!

A Porsche driver caught with a laser jammer to scramble speed cameras has become the first person to be banned from driving for using one.

The driver, Jamie Shreeve, 21, from Caister near Great Yarmouth, is only the second motorist in Norfolk to be prosecuted for using such a device and he's the first in the UK to receive a driving ban as a result.

He received a 30-day ban when he was caught red-handed by police.

The action was welcomed by two Norfolk police offices, who have been cracking down on speed camera jammers since discovering them earlier this year.

Sergeant Geoff Bowers and PC Chris Harris first came across the devices when they pulled over a Porsche 911 Turbo in March and they've since discovered many more.

The gadgets are sold over the internet as 'parking sensors'. They are wired up under the dashboard with an on/off switch and feature a small jamming device on the exterior of the car.

I thought as long as it can be used to open your garage from in your car then it's all legal.

Maybe he didn't think of that when he was pulled over..

Yup that is correct, these ones aren't legal as you aren't likely to be in parking "mode" at 100mph down the motorway :D

Having an automatic door opener or light turner oner is perfectly legal :innocent:

Well, as long as you have an automatic light or door it is lol.

21 year old driving a Porsche...
No wonder the judge threw the book at him.

I was advised from a colleague who had one on his Saab 93, that it is illegal in this country, though not illegal in Europe (hence why he had it due to trips to France). Though as mentioned by Scott, he had the old excuse of it opens his garage... even though he has a key fob at the top of his sun visor :D

I would almost put money on Nick Freeman having been able to get the lad off. Whoever represented him should hang their head in shame.

A more detailed and trustworthy source suggests the 911 Turbo was in fact an Astra van....

Who is Nick Freeman?

Edit: Found him.

Double edit: I am sure he would have had no chance at getting him off. He is a solicitor not a god

I would imagine that had he wired it into the ignition and had it working as a parking sensor there is nothing could have been done, my range rover already has front facing sensors, if I altered them could I be prosocuted, I doubt it, thay have to prove the intention is to break the law, maybe the on off switch is what swung it.

Devices bought as laser jammers are illegal. Devices bought to do other tasks that inadvertently jam lasers are not.

The trouble with your colleagues ploy is if they ask to see it working. If I was doing something like that I would make 100% certain that it did the official task. I honestly thought about a remote light for my garage as the lane I drive down is terribly lit.

That would explain it. As I just said the device has to be 100% working at it's main function. Using any device to purposefully jam a laser is illegal, regardless of what it is.

Plus a young lad, the plod prob did the bad cop worse cop bit , told him he was going to jail etc but if he admitted why he fitted it they would go easy, should have just said nothing and let em try and prove it.

That's 5 mins away from me, dont think i know him though. I'll laugh if i see him because i'm mean.

Give his dad a call and say you want some wedding photos done, when he says "sure, tell me some more details" - just say "hang on, wasnt it your son that got caught speeding and jamming police radars?" when he replies "Yes" say "i dont think you are the sort of people i want at my wedding day"

Hopefully, his dad will smite the living hell out of his retard son, for behaving like a balloon.

You think you're mean?
