Comparison of different engine mounts.

Hi, Im getting a slight vibration of the steering wheel and the dash when holding the car on the brake.

From a search on here it would conclude that my engine mounts could do with been replaced. The question is, is it worth getting TRD ones? i know that they are firmer than stock but how much difference would it make? Would they cause more vibration than standard jobbies?

I would appreciate reponses from people who have actually driven a car with them fitted.

I had TRD engine mounts on my last car, and there was no more vibration than stock.

 

It had TRD mounts for the engine, and the full transmission inc Diff, and it felt fantastic behind the wheel, everything felt tight. Well worth doing in my opinion.

I already have slightly rattly speakers and this coupled with this vibration and stiffer jdm suspension and west yorkshires finest roads = :angry:

Iky, what year is your car?

 

Engine mounts seem to be a common problem as particularly with VVTi cars.

It's a 96 facelift tt auto non-vvti

Ive done a search but im still not clear as to which stock mounts, if I do decide to go for stock ones that is, are the ones to use. Some need brakets and some don't.

The early engine mounts are much more reliable than the late ones, but to retrofit you need to swap the alloy cast bits as well as the mounts themselves.

 

Ah, I understand. My car has only done 51k, didn't expect them to show signs of weakness at this mileage.

Hi, sorry, I stopped trying to do jobs like that whilst people wait

years ago as it's just not viable. If something goes wrong, breaks,

seizes or generally plays silly buggers everyone gets stressed and wound

up. I would really need to have it here for a while. Hope you see my

I take it you are talking about holding an auto on the brakes? mine is manual.

 

Or are you refering to braking in general?

 

Either way there should be no vibration no matter the car or spec.

If you fit the TRD engine mounts on a facelift Supra, you also need to change the alloy mounts as Chris mentions above.

I got a pair of good pre facelift ones in the shed with the brackets if anyone wants to make me an decent offer, they had only done about 40k when i swapped them out for TRD ones.

 

I don't need the mounts but are they the correct brackets for my facelift to make the TRD mounts fit?
