Chris Wilson Posted October 20, 2010 Share Posted October 20, 2010 Probably cheaper to find a quieter box, there's bound to be more than bearings worn, and once you get into synchro rings and stuff it gets very costly. pedrosixfour Posted October 20, 2010 Share Posted October 20, 2010 (edited) Lord knows what the quality of the bits is like but I bought a re-build kit for the W58 from Driftmotion last month. Synchros, the quality of which I guess only fitting will tell and bearings which, from my experience of such things, are acceptable brands. Also in the kit are the gaskets and oil seals. I should be cracking on with the job myself this week fingers crossed. I went this route because I'm carrying out the work myself, I'm not saying YOU should do the same! I know of a gearbox not far from me that is proclaimed to be in good condition taken from a damage NA with 60,000 miles on the clock that I could ship to you for around £450 if you want. It might come in a bit cheaper depending on his current opinion of himself and all he owns! James, I thought about it mate but because I'm using a guide I found on the net as my white stick I honestly didn't think there would be that much call for it. It's fairly applicable to the MKIV W58 even though it appears to be a guide for a MKIII.
