Well F1 drivers probably get paid almost the same amount too. Being a footballer could be hard work too with all the training and travelling...

I think Michael Schumacher was on around £100,000 per day @ Ferrari (with all his earnings taken into account)

Premier league players are mere paupers compared to the top drivers.

Oh I am really sorry I never knew it was that tough, I am getting all tearful here. Where can I send my donation. :flame:

Yeap, its tough. Imagine all those hours stuck in the business class, then stay in a 5 star hotel suite which is no way close to your £4.5million home!

Also imagine the elf and safety issue here. Diving is a very dangerous activity!

Hard work man...hard work.

There is a big difference.

Michael Schumacher's salary is very quantifiable (at least during his golden years).

See video

He is without question one of the greatest drivers of all time and proved this week in week out for years. He shows utter dedication to his sport in and out of the race drivers seat. Even when he is losing he tries his hardest.

Wayne Rooney has not shown he is the greatest footballer of all time. And certainly not shown those attributes on and off the field. Not by a long shot. Nor does he show he is a 1 in a million footballer. He's just another overpaid football lout.

Isn't it strange that nobody seems to want to decry this sport whereas football gets castigated.

I am also surprised that nobody slates the top paid actors for what they do - are they not mercenary too?

I guess footballers are the media favourites as they help sell the papers on a daily basis, the others you mention dont make the headlines with such frequency.

Do you think that's possibly because one involves risking your life and the other is a schoolyard game? Although I never got to poke any whores when I went to school :D

exactly - that.

I know a few actors and premiership footballers who went to school with me - some are in hollywood films you are all aware of.

And the BIG difference is many actors have spent years upon years going to acting schools and studying acting at a very young age. Often they have forfeited prospects of studying more intense scientific subjects or what have you to capture their dream of becoming an actor.

Most, belief it or not, went to acting schools and drama classes pre and post high school. Very few get to hollywood without.

Furthermore, most spent countless years doing very basic jobs such as bar tending and waiting before ever getting their big break. And that's a BIG if, if they ever get their break. Don't assume because they were in films at 10years old they were already getting paid £10k-100k a film. Often they are paid tiny salaries at that age. And being in a film so young is suprisingly no guarantee you'll make it as an adult.

Would you risk every thing to work behind a bar until you are 30 hoping you get that big break??

Now footballers:

Most are hauled out of school at 16 and given a contract where come 18 years of age they are on 5-10k/week, maybe more nowadays. Simply playing 'footy' on weekends and after school with mates is no qualification to a high salary. Often they played in under 15s for a professional club etc. so they know there is a fair chance they may make it, so they spent more time kicking a ball around on weekends with their friends

They've made very little sacrifices to earn that kind of money. Especially at such a young age. And the prime ages for footballers is inevitably younger due to the nature of it being a sport. So they are very overpaid if you factor in their ages alone.

How many hollywood actors are paid millions being below 25 years old. Very very few.

And best of all in footballers scenario, if they do get dropped at 20 years old they can still go back and study. A 35 year old actor has much less prospects he can do with his life come that age if he has not got the role of his dreams.

The high salaries in movies is to compensate that massive risk.

I have school friends in both the premier league and hollywood so don't put actors in the same bracket. They are very different - one set is significantly more overpaid and under qualified than the other.

And most importantly very few professional actors are on high salaries even if they are in hollywood. Don't assume because they starred alongside "Johnny Depp" as the female lead she must have earnt 'x million'.

However many professional footballers are on very high salaries. Even in their entry seasons.

Big differences.

I wont bother answering the totally ridiculous statements individually but suffice to say you know absolutely nothing about the pre-professional life of a prospective footballer and come across as someone who just hates football.

Even though i know 2 players who played for Tottenham and 1 for Arsenal.

Course not.

Incase people are wondering who:

Tottenham players

Stephen Carr

Owen Cole

Arsenal

John Jackson

Obviously they don't play for them anymore - transfers moves etc.

Who's your references CJ?

And re: film - my friends have starred in films with Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell amongst others. They are friends of mine so not naming names. So how do you know so much about the film industry then? Please enlighten us.

Wow....I've never thought of things that way before. Not that I disrespect footballers in anyway. I guess the money does get to you. So much money at such a tender age...

As with actors, you actually have to be talented to make it big in football. Simply kicking a ball with yer mates on the weekends won't really do :p Talents and a fair amount of dedication. Sticking to strict training sessions, diets etc etc.

That said, to put things into perspective, I still think footballers do earn an obscene amount of money esp in this financial climate.

Publicity pays I guess. Look at all those Z listers. Just get your face in the papers and you earn some ;)

Aero, I tried playing at a professional level and only paid it to a semi-professional level, as CJ said its not easy.

Countless amount of times I was up early, training, practising, training, practising, training, practising. You need to be so fit, it is unbelievable. I am sure you have seen how big a pitch is and how enduring running around for 1.5 hours. Now unlike a marathon you are not cruising at one speed, your body is push as you are constantly stop starting, sprint, stop, jump, twist, I am sure you all understand. :)

What I am saying is although they are heavy over paid, do remember most careers end at 30-35 & they have to live on that money off the rest of their lives (violins please). If they could play one game & with a heavy injury finish their career, they could be devastating as most times they have nothing to fall back on.
