Attention all upper dash rattle hunters

Since owning my car I have had an intermittent rattle emanating from what I thought was the upper right hand dash area in the region of the dash tweeter. I have spent many an entertaining hour standing on my head trying to find the source of this annoying rattle which only occurred on the move. I Just assummed the source had to be in the cockpit so never looked further.

I think I may have found the source of the noise and a solution. I found the culprit totally by accident when cleaning the car. I was giving the bonnet a coat of Neilsens to help keep out the winter grim, when I heard a similar sound to my rattle when polishing near the off side hinge. I gently pushed up and down on the bonnet and repeated the light knocking sound. Unfortunately no one was a round to press the bonnet for me while I sat in the car to if see the sound was transmitted into the upper dash areas along the inner wing.

Under the bonnet the culprit was the alarm system bonnet switch, which had been fitted so it was almost at its fully open position when the bonnet was closed. I put a couple of layers of body panel tape one the bonnet to act as a cushion for the switch and depress it a few mm further against its return spring.

I did this over two weeks ago, and so far so good, no in dash noise for the same two weeks. My rattle may be unique but I am sure I have read of others with a similar noise in this location. Worth a check.
