1997 low mileage steering rack

I may after this, if you dont mind me asking whas it a PITA to remove, and whats the reason for memoving it.

its off an undamaged 6 speed na 97 facelift. i bought the car just for the v161 getrag box, and am breaking the rest. it was mot'd and had same owner for 7 years. never been thrashed.

no is 5 bolts if i remember. 3 at one side and 2 at the other. the ball joints on the track rod ends are the PITA. but a mallet and a crow bar should get them off with a bit of persistance.:eyebrows:

couple of pipes on banjo bolts at the top for the power steering and and electric plug and thats about it.

 

you can even get the boots from ebay for £6 each from states if you want to refurb it, but it doesnt need them.

Did you remove it with the engine removed or still installed.

 

I may need to check mine first to see if is the same fitment,as mine is a 1994 tt import so it may be different unless some one could clarify.

 

same as far as i know, the engine was a prefacelift na and we removed the rack a few days ago while the engine was still in place. it drops out from under the car.
