Any advice of a car to buy....

... for around £15k?

Very complicated and long story but basically there is a small chance that I might have to sell my current 7 seater. According to Parker's it should be worth around £14k (bottom book price) as p/x deal.

I am thinking of trading it in to get a smaller car. Kind of at lost at what car I should choose though...

Basically the car has to be very comfy for motorway runs, economical but still have some oomph and has 3x3 rear seatbelts for the occasional time the whole family has to go in the car. Should be fairly cheap to maintain and run as well.

The upmost importance though is it has to be uber quiet inside. I can't stand squeaks and rattles so maybe something German here? German + diesel? :search:

Any suggestions?

You are looking to buy a car for 15k and think you'll get 14k for yours? Highly unlikely, whenever I've gone for part ex deals where the car I want is only a few k over my car, the partx is usually massively less. I doub't you'd get more than 11.5k against a 15k car, if they would even take it.

I'd certainly say bmw 3 series (if you want small), for that money you'd get the latest shape which is quite nice with the chrome removed. Again, no bmw dealer will give you part x over 1-3k if its not bmw you're trading in...

Sorry but that is also utter garbage.

PX value has nothing to do with the price of the car you are buying.

And as for the BMW reference

Ah duly noted. So dealers want at least >3k cash on top of the p/x value ie I have to fork out that amount on top of p/x?

Diesel Octavia? Not sure what they sell for, just a thought.

You're basically looking for a recent diesel 4-door mid-sized car I would think. I'd go German for a refined diesel lump, and that usually means VAG or BMW.

Yeah thinking that route as well but funny thing is my mind's all blank! I had all sorts of cars in mind when I didn't have the cash but now I just come up blank :p

Thinking of the newer shaped Skoda Superb too. Should be decent too plus bonus of cheap maintanence?

edit: Scrap that! The superbs I am thinking off are all over 18k lol.

edit: 20k but this Skoda looks sexy! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201037368251492/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/seller-type/trade_adverts/maximum-mileage/up_to_10000_miles/model/octavia/make/skoda/postcode/nn188qq/page/1/radius/30?logcode=p

Just going on my experience when buying cars, if you're a dealer and you'll do a better deal, great for you!

Thats a good call, lot of car for the money. Guy in work has one, really shifts (didn't seem much slower than the NA I had) and great mpg.

No idea on interior quality though.

Does it have to be diesel? There are some nice 2005 S4's for that price 4.2l though

Or 2008 A6 quattro S line diesels, one of my mates bought an 07 3.0 TDI le mans estate recently and it is so nice inside! The seats are like armchairs and it has so many toys!

Oh...good suggestions. I've always have a fondness for Audis...

3/5series diesels.

my friend bought a 320d not long ago, cheap and easy to remap to 325d equavalent... like wise if 325 to 330 etc.

mpg is still great. quiet on the inside too. decent size car with decent size boot.

he charted out an excel spread sheet of all the cars he was interested in. no merc's or audi's were better on paper. bang for buck on performance and mpg for similar size/spec car.

hmmm... thing is I've owned an 01 3 series long time ago and the back seat space is not that great...barely fit 2 adults back there.

Ahh...didn't realise they are that cheap now...another to consider then!

This (clicky) does take my fancy.... looks really nice and I heard you can cheap them to get obscene amounts of power!
