Branners
Well my wife finally killed my much loved 29" 4:3 CRT TV. Picture quality was superb, it has lasted years and best of all the kids finger prints just rubbed off! She moved the TV to dust it and now the internal speakers have stopped working. So now I have to change to a flat screen LCD. I am looking for a 37" TV. What do people recommend at the moment? Looking to spend around £400 at the most. thanks
CJ
I'm a bit out of the loop now JB but I would recommend a browse on this site as I have always found it to be a great source of info.
caseys
Gotta be 37? I have a Hanspree which has been going for nearly 5 years now with no issues http://www.intekx.com/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=391&osCsid=35c745c749e941e5d2a19c01df2d96e4 Is the 42' equivalent 1080p with built in freeview and in your budget. Intekx.com because of the quality of service I got from them. Nowadays many dealers don't have a huge price differential on TVs and I try and find the best vendor regarding customer service etc. And you can get HDTV in CRTs btw
JS2004
As above - plenty of options and it doesnt have to be a 37". You quickly adapt to the size anyways so even a 46" upwards wouldnt be "too big" after a few weeks.
ScottC
Would plasma be better if you're going to be constantly wiping off finger prints?

Well it's nice to have a bigger telly but sometimes it just makes the room look smaller because of it, or if you're space constrained as to placement etc... 37' I'd say is a nice size TV. Unless you have a huge room and can do the 2.5*diagonal size = viewing distance you may be too close. That and JB iirc works for an audio/visual IT type setup so am surprised at asking To avoid fingerprints couldn't you wall mount it? You can get wall mounts with tilts / swing arms now too which seem rather nifty.
Terminator
Your budget would get you a good 1080 LC Samsung. They make good stuff and make it for loads of other companies. Would agree about size of screen, with the much thinner profiles, sets can go back to the wall so take up much less room. I would go 40" minimums

Would agree about size of screen, with the much thinner profiles, sets can go back to the wall so take up much less room. I would go 40" minimums I agree there, purely because there is a much greater choice in 40" and there isn't really a difference in price.. In fact I have a Samsung LE40B551 which gets fantastic reviews. They now are going at around your price bracket but may be getting hard to find as its last years model now. Also look at what features they have, new ones are coming with Freesat HD if you don't use sky (which you probably don't as it sounds like your old TV wouldn't even have a scart plug! ) I'd stay clear of Sony (although everything in my house is, apart from the TV's) due to (personal opinion here) they seem to have serious clouding issues that would bug me.. I find Samsung a good buy, or the new Panasonics are suppose to be taking over Pioneer, who make the best TV's.
Graham S
http://www.richersounds.com/ always worth a look as well Also agree with that site. They have everything in stock and their warranty (5yr) is superb. It's 10% of the cost price, which is far cheaper than anywhere else.. And they are the cheapest place for everything.. caseys
http://www.richersounds.com/ always worth a look as well Got burned myself by Richersounds years ago Bought a top of the line Sony 5-disc DVD region free 5.1 unit for about £500 (must be a good 8 years ago this), even took out the extended warranty as I didn't know better back then. In 2 years it broke 7 times, each time they sent it off for repair. Eventually it broke just before the warranty ran out and I told them they were taking the proverbial with the repairs and I wanted either a refund or a like for like replacement. Didn't get either, they either offered a £250 credit note - which couldn't get me the same functionality with any brand no matter what. Eventually after hulking it all back to the shop and threatening with watchdog/trading standards they just gave me £200 refund and told me the go away basically.. so they didn't honour their warranty scheme and I just wanted to escape from them so took the money and dropped it from the hassle perspective. Was not impressed by their customer services basically, nor their after-sales service. This was the Boscombe/Bournemouth store so hey, YMMV. Yep they're cheap, maybe for a reason. Never going to buy kit from them again unless I'm saving something stupid > 40% from where I could get it elsewhere.
