Pixelfill
Does anyone know what the recommended schedule for replacing spark plugs is on a mkVI Fiesta (2004) 1.4 petrol. I've just had a catastrophic failure of one, and wonder whether it should have been changed as part of a main dealer service schedule yet. stevie_b
Not sure myself, but you could try browsing the Haynes manuals in Halfords if no-one else can enlighten you.
SUPRALOOPY
What plug came out? Platinum or copper core? I doubt they would put iridium in a 1.

Pixelfill
Ahh but who has serviced the car and what plugs were used.. main dealer service schedule, every year since I bought the car. As for platinum / copper core I'm not sure how to tell. Mike
SUPRALOOPY
I would say they should have platinums in there then. In that case dodgy plug or not changed "naughty naughty" cooper core = every 12.000 platinums = 30,000 iridiums = 50-60 + depending on use and conditions. Pixelfill
the spark plug had blown apart ! the rest of the spark plug still screwed in - with a hoe straight through to the cylinder where the core used to be chunks of insulator and rust from the spark plug well I'm wondering whether the blame can be placed on the main dealer for not changing the plugs. Given the amount of rust blowing around inside there I wouldn't be surprised if some has been ingested. Mike

What potential damage could have been caused? I'm wondering whether I can get an independent report as to whether the plugs have been changed, and then taking the car to the dealer and demanding they sort it under "warranty". Looking at the other plugs there is that much rust around the plugs that I very much doubt they have been changed. Would someone like the RAC provide a report, or would I need to get it to another garage - it's not drivable at the moment. Or should I even bother with the report? Cheers for the replies guys. SUPRALOOPY
IMO. And that is all it is.. They have not been changed. What is the mileage and do you have a bill for the spark plugs being changed on a service schedule?
Pixelfill
47500 miles, not sure about receipts specifically stating spark plugs changed, but it has been to Fords own service schedule. checking now Mike
Pixelfill
found the invoice for spark plugs changed in May 2007 at 27000 miles. So should they also have been changed when I had the service in June this year ? Mike
Graham Read
most modern spark plugs are good for at least 40 50 thousand ml sounds like just a duff plug
Guest mikhay77
most modern spark plugs are good for at least 40 50 thousand ml sounds like just a duff plug Due to the corrosion,2 things to look out for, there are 2 core plugs between the plugs, these rust through and leak coolant around the plugs also check if it has had the modified washer jets (rubbers on the underside) Had this problem on a focus, rain water leaking in through the jets then directly onto the cam cover and down around the plug leads.Check cam cover after a heavy nights rain!
