Window grinding

It sounds to me the metal cord that winds in and out of the mechanism is starting to fray. It might end up either snagging in the motor or snapping altogether. Get the door card off and get your head in for a look. You dont want the window dropping into the door!

L18msy could be right, you definitely need to take the trim off and have a look. Let me know if you work out what the noise is.

I replaced a window mech in my Celica recently with one from a scrap car that looked fine. It works fine, but makes a strange noise on the way down. I was thinking it might need a bit of lube especially since it wasn't new.

Il whip it off in the next couple of days and post my findings, it does sound like it might be the cable though

Well, you guys were right. Took the door card of just now and the cable is frayed in 2 places, right by the motor itself and right next to the fastener that holds it to the glass. When you raise or lower it there is also greenish colour powdered plastic coming out of the housing by the motor, presumably where the frayed bits of cable are chewing up the plastic inside.

I've just read another post from today by Kazama 76 where he's changing just the motor but is having real trouble. Would i therefore be better getting a whole regulator assembly with motor rather than one without the motor?

I don't recall anyone having problems with the motor, just the cables which is very common.
