SupraMan Mk4
Hi Guys, Im sorry if this is the worst technical thread in history but I will try and explain it. My car was making a horendous whinning noise yesterday morning which I thought was the Aux belt slipping. This noise then gets worse when turning and is constant for the whole drive. So i took it straight to a garage and they have called me and asked me to come in and inspect a possible problem. He said to me, The belt itself is knackered but it has been caused to slip because the bottom pulley looks odd, it looks like it has had something smaller heated onto it, and they have never seen this before, and looks different to the part they have looked at getting in from Toyota for the model of my car. Does this sound liek a bodge job or can anybody shed any light on this? He has stated that it can be sorted by replacing it and getting a smaller belt for it (as well as fan as some of the blades are now broken for whatever reason.) But doesnt want to do this if the additional part is on the pulley for a reason. What do you guys with the ultimate wisdom recommend. Grateful for any input. dude
Place your bets that the damper ring has come off the bottom pulley. If thats the case and the garage havent twigged it I might be inclined to remove my car !!!! I doubt that very much though.

I would have taken it up to you guys at AFR after experiencing the open day last month, but doubt it would have made it! Even if it did I would have most certainly been deaf by the time I arrived! Glad I have tinted windows to partially hide my shame.
SupraMan Mk4
Havent quite got to grips with uploading pics yet but here is the first. He has said that the bottom pulley which you can see on their now had another pulley over the top of it, this one has come off and the belt slipped onto this one underneath. SupraMan Mk4
Place your bets that the damper ring has come off the bottom pulley. Mentioned this to the mechanic and he sprung into life. This seems to be the issue. Im now going over to the wanted section to get priced up on a fan (just the fan part) and the bottom pulley/damper. I assume the latter comes as a set and not ordered seperately? Thanks for your help everyone, really shows the club spirit! Digsy
Never ceases to amaze me that the belt usually stays on the pulley inner when the damper ring flies off. I wonder where yours ended up?

Swampy442
I had the same thing happen when I bought my first Aristo, only thing that gave it away was the belt was wobbling about. I drove from Portsmouth to Lincoln with it, not realising!
