Chewie
This is an absolute joke. As an ex-pat living in Greece...How the hell can they justify that? Ex-pat. Isn't that the same as an immigrant?
CJ
Ex-pat. Isn't that the same as an immigrant? Yes - but a legal one
Nick
Well, with only one blank page left I can't put this off any longer. Checked the Consulate page and there's clear instructions on how to send it to Hong Kong, forms, payment, how long it takes etc. Doesn't say if they'll transfer my foreign (Japanese) work visa to the new one or if it comes back blank though. Anyone know?

Anyone know? It will be the same as with my China visa - they will not transfer it over, the new Brit passport will be totally blank but it if you had mentioned that you needed the Japanese work visa they will leave that page on your old passport intact for you to use again. However they will cut the corners of all the other pages rendering them invalid. Hope they don't trim your work visa as I know getting these work visa can be a major ball ache. Nick
Ah, so they'll return the old passport to me. I thought they'd either insert the old page into the new one or just give me a blank new one. I'd better check with immigration here, make sure they'll OK when I extend the Visa in June. Anything slightly different to the standard procedure is even more of a PITA.. When you visit HK do you just get a small stamp or do they insert a visa covering a whole page like they do in Cambodia and Vietnam?

Yes, they will give you back your old passport for your record anyway. When you visit HK you will get a small stamp and dated with your permission to stay till date and another small stamp when you leave. When you apply for residency here you get a half page visa label. China visa is also a full page label. If you have lived in HK for over 20 years like myself, you don't get a stamp in and out due to being a permanent resident.
