CJ
This is an absolute joke. As an ex-pat living in Greece, if I want to renew my passport I now have to send it to an office in Madrid (wtf?) and they then issue the passport and send it back to me. The cost for this is 161.00 Euro plus a 30.00 Euro courier charge. So, to renew my passport is going to cost me 191.00 Euro as opposed to the £77.50 it costs in the UK. How the hell can they justify that?

What a joke that is, maybe you're being punished for leaving the country. Not good.
Jake
Meh, you're lucky they let you have one at all. You come live in this shit-hole, drive to work in the dark and rain, work 12 hours, then drive home in the dark again, and you can have my passport for free. Don't worry, Col, I'll keep you Grecian bachelor pad tidy for you.
CJ
I can understand the 30.00 Euro courier fee but why the hell is it so much more expensive to provide the exact same document that they do in the UK?
CJ
Meh, you're lucky they let you have one at all. Oh, and the Grecian bachelor pad now comes with an incumbent 6'4", 16 stone, 19 year old called Joshua as he has been living out here since May. Jake
Can't you use a UK address to apply for it?
CJ
Can't you use a UK address to apply for it? Mine does not run out until March 2012 (it was a friend who just had to fork out the 191.00) but I can assure you that I will be applying for a renewal at the same time as my annual visit to the UK. Jake
When you put it that way maybe 191.00 is not that bad a deal eh? You know I hate you, right? Oh, and the Grecian bachelor pad now comes with an incumbent 6'4", 16 stone, 19 year old called Joshua as he has been living out here since May. Blimey. Little Joshua must've changed a bit since I last saw him! My Josh was just talking about you the other day - well, your car mainly.
CJ
Blimey. Little Joshua must've changed a bit since I last saw him! He certainly has. He has worked all season at the bar as a barman and is now known as the "Cocktail King" My Josh was just talking about you the other day - well, your car mainly. I still have pics and vids of the car and spend many an hour reminiscing. How old is your Josh now?

loks
Oh yes the joys of expat passport renewal 20 years ago when I first moved to HK, when it was time to renew my UK passport it was a direct cost comparison with the GBP to HK$, they then would courier your passport by diplomatic package to the UK and back within 3 days. Now it costs twice as much as it does in the UK and because it is now sent back & forth digitally it takes 7-10 days. Total piss take. And I get my piss taken once a year as that's how long it takes to get through the 48 pager here. I do travel to China daily and that involves a lot of stamps. But it is a minor niggle compared to the better weather and girls
Nick
Not much better in Japan. Mine has to be sent to HK and it's 140quid for a standard one or 170quid for a frequent traveller. I see the one day service in Victoria has gone up a bit too. Was 90quid the last time I did it, 138quid now !
Jamesy
So, to renew my passport is going to cost me 191.00 Euro as opposed to the £77.50 it costs in the UK. How the hell can they justify that? I rang up for fee's to renew my passport yesterday mate and its not £77.50 anymore.....they quoted: £85.50 - 2/3 wk service £112 - 1 wk service £129.50 - 1 day service
