They are a rip off.

I've never had any problems but since I left college it's cost me £17 every 6 months for the guy to poke around in my mouth, say some numbers and say "everything's fine, carry on as you are" and that's it.

Seems like a good price.

Was this in the Kings X area?

I hope all you lot are encouraging your kids to become dentists and not to mess about with X boxes and the internet ;) I have dirty hands and wish I'd listened to my family and gone into law ;)

Kids now dont want to do jobs that arent fun, because "whats the point of working every day in a boring job?"

They waste their time doing Art and Music, and seeing it through college to university masters degrees and then end up working in costco.

whilst i agree that its wrong that u cant get emergency treatment, i do actually think their pay justifies the job...i ha a set to with my dentist mid treatment...halfway having work done and he cancels the day before to go on holiday..my answer to that was i wont pay my bill, simples!

it put me off having work done until i needed it last year after nearly 10 years. i couldnt even get into a dentist so i went to the dentistry college in leeds. the work that a 5th year studeent did was so much better than the dentist did origionally so i asked to have all his work replaced. the best bit was, it didnt cost me a penny!

I've been reading on the internet that college students who are training to dentists often give excellent treatment for free. Obviously if they mess it up you can get a real dentist to fix it, I'm going to look into this...

Like the also cited veterinarians, the training period is long and arduous, and the academic standards high. Poking about in some rotten toothed, garlic riddled mouth, of someone that potentially carries a disease that would, in any other time, be made notifiable, is not everyone's cup of tea, especially in this era of vexatious litigation. Good luck to them I say. My dentist is also a pal, but he still makes me wince when he says "Let's call it X pounds, just for you" :)

  • 3 weeks later...
why cant you take the bit back to sainsubrys and complain it shouldnt of been in the tin , mention the consumer people when you go , see what they say no harm in trying

Result is in.....

Sainsburys have accepted liability! ;)

It was indeed a piece of METAL in the meat!! so they have accepted to pay the dental fees together with an offer of compensation too.

Very pleased.

Sue Sainsburys.

Now debating whether to involve a solictor given the circumstances and really go for MAX compensation possible through courts or just accept their offer (not sure what the compensation is yet, they told me over the phone they'll be putting it in the post).

Decisions..

Btw mods please move this to members chat incase I decide to pursue legal route.

Thanks Peter for the advice. Really appreciated.

Tut, tut! It's comments like that that really hack me off. Max compensation! Aaaaarrrggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Be happy with your £170 and get on with your life. Just look where you're walking and look at what you're eating.

Don't become another parasite that's responsible for everybody's ruddy insurance bills going through the roof.

Trot on!

To be fair Ellis, I am now left with a silver filling for life. By no fault of my own.

Tooth could quite possibly need root canal treatment at some stage later in life - another £xxxxs.

And the tooth is now sensitive to hot and cold.

And I had to take half day to see dentist AND I needed to endure a painful injection etc. etc. all due to Sainsburys.

So its not all money money money without reason. But I see where you are coming from.

Did take an hour but still. £170 for 1 hours work!?!?

Should have gone to NHS emergency.

Girlfriend had one.

She left her private dentist, after they quoted £1900.

NHS: £47.

No brainer!

Do you not have emergency NHS centers near you? Thought they were quite the norm these days?

:yeahthat:

My girlfriend has a cap on one of her teeth. It came off after 10 years of being on (admittedly, I did open the fridge door into her mouth :D - Wasn't funny at the time though!)

She went to the emergency dentist and they have fixed rates that they charge. Cost her £28 to have another cap fitted on (well, cost me actually).

Tried Martini,

Couldn't get seen NHS on a Monday morning - earliest they could see me was a week later. :(

Anyhoo I'm happy they've accepted liability that was the main thing. So at least I am not out of pocket for the dental treatment.

Fair play mate.

You tight bastard!

I know a lad from School that went on to become a dentist. He was a right Tw&t. Only difference now, he'll be a rich tw&t.

In addition, I used to go out with a dental nurse. The head of the practice was trying to convince all patients to go private with him and when an NHS one left, they were never replaced. The current system is wrong IMO.

In addition to that, she was told by him (the dentist) that she could easily do most of the dental work he does. She agreed.

Sh1t happens every day mate - it's how you deal with it that sets people apart. I've had a half a tooth fall off last week but I'm undecided who to blame: Cadburys for all the chocolate I scoffed, Kelloggs for all that pesky Crunchy Nut Cornflakes or Terrorists? I might just sue the lot. Or I might just talk half a day off, pay the dentist to repair it and get on with life.
