supra_aero
Cracked my tooth last night whilst eating dinner . No fault of my own. So annoyed. Not only that, I call my dentist in the morning. Only for him to say, "you've not been in for 6 months so you aren't registered here anymore. And besides, earliest I could see you is Monday." EH!? Monday??? It's only Tuesday!! I go to my bank dentist and they can't see me till Thursday (semi - private)??!?? Then they refer me to private dentist who surprise surprise can see me in an hour. £170 lighter now after a simple filling. Takes the p*ss. And none of this was my fault either!! Lucky my chipped tooth hadn't reached a nerve so I had no pain. But if if it had and I had no money I'd have had to wait until Monday in excrutiating pain!!! And its all Sainsbury's fault! Putting metal crap in their mince meat!!
supra_aero
Did take an hour but still. £170 for 1 hours work!?!?
Havard
Dentists are pure evil, as are vets. At least the dentist fixed the problem. I recently got charged £25 for having a conversation with my local vet...... H.

hogmaw
The hours work also has to pay for many years of hard study. If it's that lucrative a job why not have a go yourself?

I wish I had now All it was was dabbing a pit of paste about and using a mini drill. How hard can it be? I'm being silly here, but the main point is why there is always a massive waiting list for NHS dentists. What I don't understand is - had I been in severe pain and working in a low paid job, there'd be no way I could afford that ad hoc. Do they honestly expect you to sit in pain for 1 week??!? peter richards
stressful job tbh , a mate of mine went into dentistry and although its a good paid job if they do have a tendency to lose the plot. i wouldn't want to look into peoples mouths everyday , i bet they see some horrendous sights

Very very annoying There must be a dentist on here somewhere who can fill us in on why surgeories operate like this. Ridiculous that you can't get emergency treatment within 24 hours, even 48 hours! Yet you can privately at a huge mark up.
peter richards
why cant you take the bit back to sainsubrys and complain it shouldnt of been in the tin , mention the consumer people when you go , see what they say no harm in trying
supra_aero
On phone to Sainsburys now. Surprisingly they are incredibly accomodating (as if it's happenned many times before). Not palming me off at all.. could be a big earner in this.... Thanks Peter, will let you know how this goes..
peter richards
thats why i suggested it , they will trace back and find out how it got in there , they have to now i think , part of the manufacturing laws. fingers crossed they will compensate you, but dont be afraid to mention the consumer people if you need to , keep that in your back pocket
supra_aero
Think you are right. They will be calling me back. I have my 'claim' reference now . I'll keep you posted. Thanks again

Awisto
Do you not have emergency NHS centers near you? Thought they were quite the norm these days?
Digsy
Wouldn't we be saying the same sbout Doctors if we didn't have the NHS? Or more likely not saying it, because we would all have private health and dental insurance to pay for it all. Having said that, I don't visit my dentist anymore because they were forever cancelling my booked-six-months-in-advance appointments so the dentist could go on holiday at the last minute. Thanks. I find it kind of odd that its drummed into you that you must have regular dental checks (which you have to pay for), and you must have regular sight tests (which you have to pay for), but you don't have to have a routine medical once a year - unless you go private (which you have to pay for). Nic
Invest in a set of pliers, remove all your teeth, no more rip off dentist bills, job done.
Benyon
Sad as it may sound I like getting dental work done it feels good "A bit of pain never hurt anyone" hehehe, Anyway ive just had a fair bit of work done at the hospital and the dentist. Im on the dole but still had to pay for my treatment, I get £120 every two weeks and apart from my secret savings (Im never going to touch unless its absolute I have too) That is the only amount of money im getting, so because of my dentist bill ive no money till the dole wire some over to me. All the scrotes/scum get free everything when they are on the dole but I have to pay for everything (I rang up the JC to see if I had to pay for dental work and they said yes. Meh, same as any emergency callout - try calling a plumber in the dead of night and see what I mean. I would guess that the NHS pays very little for dental work, and no 'emergency' bonus, so why would a dentist put themselves out? A little private work on the other hand, with privately dictated rates and immediate payment, that sounds somewhat more attractive, eh. 2soops
I read in the papers a while back that a good private dentist can now make £350k plus a year, thats why they charge so much. I had a filling replaced after it fell out last year. It was done by the same dentist who originally put it in, yet even though it was his work that failed and fell out and he still charged me £140 for 20 mins work. Rip Off, I only go now when i have too
Abz
I never had any pain for almost 10 years of not going, in the end went for a checkup to make sure my gums are okay & everything. Then forked out £450 to have my teeth & gums cleaned a couple of times & then have 2 small holes fillied. The cleaning was worth the money I think, but the filling...no way, took her 15 minutes to do with a bit of paste & then a small drill. Now since having work done (2 months later) I now have pain in another filling, I am sure they planted a pain time!
