Has my supension given up?

For A while I'v had a horrible knocking noise coming from the rear passenger side quarter. Recently I did a wheel bearing change on the same corner and it was still knocking.

I have not driven the car for a few weeks because I have decided to go for a cheaper vehicle for work. Anyways I decided today that after work I would finally adjust the handbrake (as it was such a nice day) to see if that would solve the knocking noise. I turned the car around on the drive and noticed the extreme difference in wheel arch clearance's!

Just wondering if anyone could tell me whats happened? It's looks to me as if the gas has leaked from the shock resulting in this but not too sure.

Thought I should mention that it has Tien Street supension on it.

Thanks

Right I'v had the wheel of and I can't see anything obvious. Had a good look and the spring and it strangley looks fine, no breaks in the coil and coils look evenly spaced.

I have no idea what's going on can anyone point me in a different direction?

it may be one of the springs that hold the handbrake shoes on, if one of the pins is slightly bent the spring and the cap become too close to the inside of the wheel bolts and knock.. take off the disk and rotate the hub, youll be able to see instantly if its touching...

ps my suspension is exactly like this, lopsided, ive swapped the shocks over and it makes no difference, i have noticed that the antiroll bar seems to be more on one side, im thinking that maybe its moved and is causing the imbalance.. im going to remove my roll bar for testing soon..

I remember reading your thread about this problem you had :) I'll check tommorow. But even if it is that I'd still be left with the issue of why the arch has dropped 1.5''. Bloody car!!

Unfortunatley it got dark before I could have a good look around the whole corner but I will do tommorow. Thanks for the tips

My back brakes used to be ruddy vocal - clacking and banging all the time. New discs, pads and shoes sorted all that out - quiet as a mouse now - I'd put money on brakes needing a look at.

Has your rear got 2 different types of spring on? Count the coils on each side.

:banghead: I'm such a dumbass! I put the wheel back on today after tightening the handbrake, put the car back on the drive 'properly' and the arch clearances were the same

My drive has a slight slope but I didnt think it would have such a drastic affect on the suspension. I'v had the car in the same position plenty of times before and never noticed it. So now that's that sorted I just have a knocking noise to solve.

A while ago I had a knocking when braking, is this what you had? Only saying because I got all new disks and pads and this solved it. My knocking noise occurs whenever the car is moving. I thought it could be a siezed caliper but there was no sign of over heating from the wheels. Thanks

I had a brake pads on the front knocking, they just needed taking out and replacing and the V shaped pin bending. It only occoured at the STOPPING point of the car, not during movement.

Of course, when you fix one thing you get something else, and I have a strange rattling sound from the drivers rear now, ill end up looking at it at some point.. im only holding off because something else will draw my attention afterwards :D

Yours sounds slightly more terminal though
