insurance just getting crazy?

I'm not looking forward to getting a quote as - since my last - I've had one claim (knocking my NCB from 3 down to 1) and have gotten myself 6 points for speeding back in 2008 (took 2.5 years to ever get anywhere!).

I was £950 fully comp at 21. I'm 22 now but with these circumstances. :(

KY for Hatevent.....

My insurance had consistently dropped for years....until this year.

Yes, you can guess it actually went up. Couldn't even get anywhere to match last year's premium :(

same here. Mine went from £1,090 to £1,400.

I havnt got around to start moaning at them yet, but i wont be staying unless the drop the price.

Shop around and let them all know you are shopping around. Loyalty very rarely pays dividends in all aspects of business.

They all go off and ask their manager what to price at. I never tell them my best price either as they'll just knock a tenner off.

Just entered all of my details and I've been quoted £1084. That's with one accident at fault and 6 points for a CD30.

I don't understand how they work it out.

who is this with mate? and what spec is your supra?

I don't understand how they work it out.

Your personal circumstances are of no interest to them and do not matter.

All they do is take all the data you give them:

- how old you are,

- what colour your car is,

- whereabouts you drive it,

- etc, etc, etc, etc

and plug it into a mahooosive formula that calculates:

a) the likelihood you are to have a claim (doesn't matter one jot if it's your fault or not - it costs them the same whether it's you driving it into a tree or someone randomly torching it)

b) how much the claim will cost (not just the value of your car - also needs to worry about damage to property, legal claims for physical injury etc.)

That is ALL they really care about. They then calculate three things:

1) How much they need to charge you for the year to stay ahead of the curve on probability and cost (based on the above)

2) Comparison with how much their competition are charging (may involve discounts for certain targetted demographics - eg. online discounts, girl-only insurance, 10yr+ no claims, etc.)

3) Markup based on how much they think they can get away with from YOU (usually based on new customer discounts or, counter-intuitively, increases for loyal customers - the "hassle" costs)

And that's it.

Simples.
