Aero-M
I brought a rc helicopter about a year ago, I have flown it all summer and done various upgrades to it. Now I have decided to sell it and put it up in my local model shop, Tonight a customer has come in and told the owner of the shop that it is his helicopter that was stolen along with lots of other rc stuff around a year ago. There are various marks on the helicopter that he said were on there and when the shop checked sure enough there they were. But there are also some differences some of which were added by myself, others were there when I brought it I brought it in good faith of someone who claims to have brought it from a boot sale. It wasn't in flying condition when I got it, the person saying it is his said it was flying when stolen. So I have called the police who are coming to see me tomorrow at 8pm. I'm just wondering where I would stand?? I don't want to lose lots of money, but at the same point fell very sorry for this person if it turns out to be his heli and I don't have to give it back as he has lost £1200 when it got stolen. tony tt
I know if you buy a stolen car without knowing and it comes to light the cops take it away and you lose out. Not sure where you would stand on this mate.
Havard
If he can prove that it was his originally then you will lose your money, whether you bought it in good faith or not. Although I have heard stories to the contrary.... H.
tony tt
Tell him he can take it away for your asking price!!
Aero-M
I have spoken the the person who claims it to be his, I'm just concerned as I don't know him, what was to stop him walking into the shop a couple of days earlier, looking for any defects then returning to say that's mine it has this and that wrong with it? The shop assure me they haven't seen him in there recently, and they remember him telling them about the theft when it happened. I'm to bring the helicopter home with me for the police to look at tomorrow night.

Maybe ask to see the receipt from when he bought it as I'm guessing he'd have kept it. Sorry to hear this.
Aero-M
I don't know how he could prove it was his, He said he has many receipts for things he has brought for it but they are common upgrades that many people put on these helicopters, There are lots of things however that he reckons he put on there, and there may well be lots of the same helicopters out there with identical upgrades, but the chances are, not in the same town. One part of the frame is broken which he said his was, but that is the most common fault with this type of model.
jevansio
He could have sold it at a boot sale, kept the receipt then seen it for sale later, surely he'll need a crime number with the report stolen hecicopter on too?

He said he has a crime number, but his not sure if he can find it. I'm not sure if the person I brought it from was the one who stole it but will give the poice as much details as I can about him. pistonbroke
Police will have the crime number still on file. If on the report he stated the identifying features at the time the report was made, and those features are still present confirming it belongs to him, I'm afraid you've lucked out mate. Abz
Sounds grim, if his had a burglary then I assume he might have claimed it on contents insurance? If that is the case then it could be worse & would belong to the insurance peeps. It is quite a bad situation to be in & I am sorry but not clear cut on who's it would be, do you have a citizen's advice bureau near you? Might be worth popping in to see them. Also when the police might be able to advise you on this area.

Aero-M
What I said about Ed and his chopper sounded to wrong. What I ment was buying his helicopter will at least be a nice easy sale.

I think we all know there are no accidents when making a post, just admit you want to stroke Ed's chopper, and feel it's thrust
