a98pmalcolm
Fun isn't it haha its one thing after another lol.... ok so the double reboot means its failed so it needs more v core... that makes sense! I bet you having a rite chuckle about me at work Daman.. I feel i owe u a beer after all the pms and posts. Problem im having The-Plethora is i cant get it to boot corrently with the setting at 3.80... Many thanks to other for the time aswell. will keepyou all updated UPDATE: Ok set the vCore higher and still double booted to start it in stock so overclock failed. Set the FSB to 3.60GHz and still double booted. Took the V core allllll the way up to 1.4750v.. Now im no overclocking expert but that pretty high.. But still double booted... so put the Vcore back to the safe 1.3000v @ 3.40Ghz atm. This my sound like silly thing to ask but you dont think it has to do with the ram do you?? If its still double booting at 1.4750v with the FSB set to 3.60GHz do you think its safe to keep bumping up the Vcore until double booting stops? Thanks Paul

The-Plethora
Do you have an option in the bios for limit max val or something similar? (varies a bit). Can you let us know what settings you are using for 3.8GHz? Multiplier Voltage Memory speed Are you keeping the multiplier at 8.5, putting them ram at 448MHz to reach 3800ish? I think its weak RAM, running higher than 400 is likely pushing it beyond its limits. You might get away with loosening the memory timings, you said its running at 6,6,6,18 or something which is not especially tight but you could lower it as a test 8-8-8-20 or something to start. If you are keeping the RAM at 400 you should be ok keeping the voltage at 1.8v, I would only go higher if you cna identify the RAM is being the issue. Go easy on that CPU...they burn easy
a98pmalcolm
yes keeping the multiplyer at 8.5 The ram keeps itself at 400 and yes i have the voltage for the ram at 1.8v I have tryed the Ram at 2V and it still refused to allow the overclock to 3.80GHZ So are you saying maybe try the RAM timings 8-8-8-20 to see if it allows the CPU to run at 3.80 GHz? Sorry if i seem a little nieve with this. Its my 1st overclock. Thanks Paul Can you let us know what settings you are using for 3.8GHz? Multiplier Voltage Memory speed Mutliplyer ay 8.5 Voltage 1.373 and have tryed higher Memory speed says 800 MGz Frequentcy but that not adjustable
DamanC
I recon you have hit the limit on your current hardware. This could be down to any part bottle necking, but is most likely the RAM. Try loosening the timings but most likely it wont help.

DamanC
If you think spending out on some decent corsair stuff is worth the extra overclock, then yeah. Whilst it most likely is your RAM, we still don't know it is for definite. Idealy you need to try other CPUs, perhaps motherboard but that is not always an option. If I were you, I would leave it at 3.4 and be happy with an already large overclock. Wait until you want to upgrade to a 1366/1156 solution and then spend the money then on decent RAM etc.
a98pmalcolm
OK thanks very much for the time DamanC.... You have been a great help. Im goin water cooled at the end of th month and will get some opinions on some systems with a new thread. Thanks for everyones else post 2. The-Plethora
I think at stock your CPU runs at 2.83Ghz on a 1333MHz Bus speed. These chips have a quad pumped front side bus and so at stock the memory runs at 333. 333 x 4 gives you near enough the 1333Mhz bus speed. This then gives you a bit of headroom on the memory up to 400Mhz to play with without issue. As your CPU multiplier is fixed at 8.5 this 400MHz speed will give you the 3.4GHz that you are using, all well and good and the memory is not stressing above specification. To rech 3.8Ghz I reckon you are running your memory at 447Mhz which with your 8.5 multiplier gives you 3799.5 which is a fair bit past the specifications of your 400MHz RAM. I know you said the memory speed appears to not change but if not what setting are you changing to up the speed? Edit: Just saw your thread on overclockers, you cant escape us! Are these 2 screens you did on the same page? http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/6233/20101011003.jpg http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/3977/20101011004k.jpg
a98pmalcolm
The-Plethora u lil spy.lol. Yes thats my screen shots. I suppose using the same username gav it away ot was me lol. Basicly what your seeing in the screen shots its the happy 3.40GHz over clock settings. I cant adjust the RAM speed manualy. I will get a mid screen shot now. http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9930/20101013003.jpg
