nevins
Although saying that, if anyone has an 1927 austin 20 sat there let me know as that would be ideal.
sams
I cant see how they can be compared, rat rods are usa, the "rat" look we see on corsa's and golfs etc are euro origin, Like said rat rods are hand made works of art, euro rat look can be pulled off but hard,
nevins
Guess who has just found a company producing ford model B GRP hot rod shells lol, and they are quite cheap too.
2soops
Is it just me or do you need a crap roof rack to complete the modern rat look

dude
I was always of the opinion that the rat rod look emanated from the old Bonneville racers where the salt always corroded them and they were more fussed about performance than looks so left em as is!!! Supra-Brett
Both look crap to me, with newer versions looking truely awfull.
jevansio
I'm confused, it hamerite rat or not?????
2soops
I love the rat look which is great on classic yanks, but modern cars look bad enough, let alone purposely making them look worse. Generally all models seem to be heading in the same ultimate computer design driven aerodynamic shape with just subtle differences to tell them apart. What ever happened to charachter? Swampy442
Any examples of a good one then mate? cause from what i've seen so far, i hope it's a phase that passes quickly! I really like this pair Maybe the correct term now is distressed and not ratted? Im not a Veedub fan but seena few distressed campers and transporters about. Its a tough look to pull off
2soops
Again with the roof rack, are trailers becoming cool too!!!! I want to know what would happen if you undid the mole grips on the front corner!

evinX
I know what you mean, those chopped up hotrods really have been thought about and do look cool becuase they have an individual character, i dont get the whole rusted bonnet look, it looks stupid, its just bunged on there and it does not have character. And they should be illegal, imagine when they rust through, going at speed, what that will cause. Plus if anyone catches their skin on that its of to the doctors for some shots. peter richards
ratted and distressed sort of sums it up . the yanks as john said are built around power and speed , not a corsa with a 1.1 , muppets lol
Morpheus
I want to know what would happen if you undid the mole grips on the front corner! Jesus that's dangerous. Hope they're welded on. Also, blinging alloys kinda detract from the rusty look somewhat or is that an attempt to 'bring balance to the force' and pass an MOT? nevins
exactly my point, the chopped roof ford model b's with no arches and a huge v8 in them is the original styling, function over looks all day long for me.

Septic
The rat look on new cars just looks plain wrong imo. The old Mk1 and Mk II Golfs can look cool 'ratted up' though.:
Guest Ditch
Sorry to pull up an old thread, and also hi, I'm new. This thread came up after a search for 'corsa b engine bay' in google, and I scroll down to find http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs042.snc4/34443_1509796382610_1165350277_31502487_2891605_n.jpg I had a chuckle at it, being my car and all and just thought I'd jump in and say a couple of things. I agree that a roof rack and a rusty bonnet is overdone, bland and doesnt make it anything like a traditional rat rod, the reason for those being on in that picture was I was painting up a replacement bonnet and the rack was actually in use for a while, the wheel is just there for when it got lonely. I personally didn't like it looking like this (on the bonnet it even has donations for new bonnet welcome) but it was taking me time to plan out and carry out some other work so I lost interest in how it looked at the time and just drove it as it was. I never expected my car to be linked to rat rods, because as I do love them, its a 1.2 rep mobile with no power and little style, but its a first car and I'm a part time student, I'm happy to be driving what I can till I can save up currently it stands like this, which again, I am sure you will hate but I'm making the most of what I can, hoping to get a more door estate and stance it when my course is over and I go into full time work. http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs069.snc6/167924_1833721640539_1165350277_32235788_5665759_n.jpg http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs907.ash1/181510_1833720040499_1165350277_32235786_4113836_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs331.ash2/61154_1618437578572_1165350277_31785236_4256896_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs358.ash2/63827_1618438418593_1165350277_31785239_5406951_n.jpg TL:DR I'm not her to start a flame war, I respect people will not like certain cars, but some of us are younger drivers that do what we can with little to no money and have fun doing so. Also I dont like the theory that a rusty bonnet and roof racks make a rat, nor does sticking any random tat you can to a vehicle. And I hate hazzard tape >

jazz1
They both look retarded, it's stupid idea and not cool in anyway. Who ever thinks these look cool, have to be pyscologicaly mad. This look was created by CHAVS, it suits them because they have the same image as these cars.
Blackie
This look was created by CHAVS It was created in the 50's in America mate (by accident) when people only had money to spend on looks OR performance. They would have a scrapper and make it go like f**k
jazz1
I'm more on about the rat look, not only would it ruin the whole body of the car, it looks like a scrap junk.

Guest Ditch
Original rat rods were created for speed and not looks, out of whatever parts they could get their hands on. Modern 'rat-look' cars are the same as any genre (stanced, retro, VIP, resto, etc) it has its followers and it has its haters. Within that it has people that do it right, people that have fun doing it, and people that get it so far out of context its almost embaressing. I'm sure if many people could could get their mits on a real rod, and then insure it then all would be peachy. But its England, and for some reason insurance costs some drivers 4x the worth of their tiny engined car. 'Tis a thing of beauty. Personally I'm perfectly happy with not everyone liking what I do to my car, I respect its not to everyones tastes and that is fine with me. Personally I can't stand Big bodykits and huge audio with no power, or ONI camber, but the person who created it enjoys their car so thats all that counts!
