nevins
Right then guys time for a debate on this subject. I am fed up off hearing idiots going on at how their car is "ratted" when truth be told its a rotten corsa with paint flaking and so on. In my eyes this is an insult to the original Rat rodders. Now a rat rod is a true legend in its own, hand built form parts and made to fit but still has the power and dare I say even the looks, they are amazing to look at and nose around and see how they have been built. So my question is what do you think on this I will add some pics below to validate my thoughts. http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/rat-rods-e1278893236695.jpg http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/1939-rat-rod-pickup-e1278893535378.jpg http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/BackToThe50s_2009_RatRods_1659_L_PARTPAL-e1278894147734.jpg http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/4778439151_da3ca4c71f-e1278894411774.jpg Now for the piss poor new age fashion. http://corsasport.co.uk/carimages/4995/rust_on_002.jpg http://rat-look.com/images/Vauxhall%20-%20Opel/Vauxhall_Corsa_B_Rat_Darcar.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs042.snc4/34443_1509796382610_1165350277_31502487_2891605_n.jpg What I see from this is that they are utter crap that are just a joke, but it's cool by all accounts. nevins
Thank you I am not the only one, there are a load of them in my area and I hate them, and now the "dub" scene are taking it to heart.
Hoppy
The last few car's look like they've suffered an engine bay fire So have those bonnets been painted to look like that?, or do the owners just remove all the paint and let it rust? it's ridiculous! Miguel
The modern version doesn't quite cut it does it. I think the term 'no school like the old school' fits quite nicely here.
nevins
Exactly, the rat rods were made for racing to start with so it was the case of get any parts you can and build a hot rod, where as to day its a case of "lets trash my car, I'm cool"
Miguel
I'm sure you could apply the style over substance rule to many things now days.
sdistc
Rat rods are cool. Even though I'm not a huge fan of rusty Here's a few pics of one I saw on holidays. As for these modern ratrodders...IMO, rice is rice no matter what genre they're "homaging". It's the same as putting neons and a massive exhaust on a Camry - not quite the same as a turbo conversion, is it?
dr_jekyll
twat look is more apropriet
a98pmalcolm
the top pic reminds me of a game i used to play called interstate 76.....lol... yer i never understood the rat look. When i was a VW man.. some of my mates did it.. mainly the caddys. They used to say "paint is for pussys" lol
nevins
a rat rod is cool due to what it is, a hot rod which is function over appearance, it serves its job and thats it. when it comes to modern cars doing it, it just does not work. Swampy442
The rat look, when pulled off, is really nice. I thing of it more as a homage to the rat rods. But its alot more than a rusty bonnet.

SupraDan24
Me and a mate were gonna buy one of these a while back and take it on the Scum ball ralley as it was starting in my home town
nevins
I have always wanted a rat car, but a rat rod. The only problem is that old british cars just dont have the right shape. Then importing yank parts aint going to be cheap.
fizzle
ratted camper vans and bugs can look the nuts, if done properly. The style only suits older cars... those corsa's are ridiculous, and so are the dimlo's that drive them.. my dads m8's ratted hotrod is in the audi r8 commercial on tv, it's called "unloved"
