creative
I'm not sure, I'm going on what I saw on Motorway Patrol (which may be set in New Zealand..) and one of the cops on there said they're not able to own turbocharged cars until they've been driving for a certain amount of time. It may relate to petrol or diesel cars I'm not sure. There should just be a limit so you have to drive for say 3 years before owning anything powerful, I don't wish to go into it any further like specs of cars it's just my opinion so no rich kids will pass their test then get a powerful car before they have driving experience (Hulk Hogan's son in the Supra springs to mind). There should possibly be a skid-pan day as part of the test to see how you react in certain circumstances too. correct. There are actually 3 parts to getting your full license over here and it takes 3 years to get your full license. First your L's. You have to complete a logbog of 120hrs before you can sit your test. If under 25 you MUST be on your L's for a minimum of 12 months before you can sit your test. Once you complete the test for L plates you move onto red P's. You have restrictions in carrying passengers at night and limited to non turbo cars and nothing over 8 cylinders. Speed is also limited to 80kph.... no matter what road you are on. ie freeway which is 110kph. After 12 months on red P's you sit your test for green P's. similar restrictions as red P's but your max speed is raised to 100kph. After 12 months on green P's you sit your test for your full license. once passed you have no restrictions.
trinitom
i don't think the problem is on the driver or in the car, imo the system is the problem. not so long a young girl around 22, nearly kill 3 people. she was drunk, hit and run and even after that she did crash again to another car a few miles away. the outcome, driving licence ban and 1 year jail, what's that?? why not 10 years driving ban and 5 years jail? sometimes i thing the law is in hand to hand with criminals. Havard
Lovely bit of high speed parking there. As already said, power is nothing to do with peoples attitude to driving. I remember being 17 and driving like a dick in a 1.1 Fiesta. I now have a 326 Hp Supra and drive like miss daisy (most of the time). Attitudes are what make drivers and education is the key to changing attitudes. If people don't learn or change their attitudes then they should be banned from driving.... I imagine the guy who crashed has a complete lack of respect for the Ferrari's power and tried to show off or rag the car in a built up area. That accident "could" have killed people at a bus stop or wherever and in which case the penalty would have been much more severe......this is the problem with the law. If you are reckeless and don't kill someone you are ok, it's just the luck of the draw..... H.
Nodalmighty
It's all academic anyway, nothing will change. The Prisons are already full to bursting, the Government is super skint at the moment so unless there is a death, it's going to be a case of getting some money out of them in the shape of a fine and then moving along. If you implement a law to prohibit something there will always be people prepared to break it and take their chances.
supra-ireland
First your L's. You have to complete a logbog of 120hrs before you can sit your test. Christ, you only need 45 hours in your logbook to take the test for a helicopter licence. As already said, power is nothing to do with peoples attitude to driving. I remember being 17 and driving like a dick in a 1.1 Fiesta. I now have a 326 Hp Supra and drive like miss daisy (most of the time). But think how much more dangerous you would have been if you had the Supra when you were 17.
Havard
But think how much more dangerous you would have been if you had the Supra when you were 17. I would probably have binned it within a couple of days. As it was I drove round for months causing mayhem...... There is a time and a place for hooning, you will never get rid of the urge but we have to make anti social driving similar to drink driving as a taboo.... H. Heap of scrap 10 year old 1.0L Fiasco. It needed 1L of oil for every tenner of petrol you put in. Busted wishbones, wire sticking out of the tyres. I used to drive the shlt out of that thing. I dread to think what would have happened if I had a powerful car back then.
