Scott
Reboot the lappy pressing F8 repeatedly. You will get options, select Safe mode with network. See if that lets you in. If it does you can try a restore.
sams
Same proplem in safe mode, but i noticed there more options than normal in the boot menu, , In order; Repair your computor Safe mode Safe mode with networking Safe mode with command prompt Enable boot logging Enable low-resolution video (640x480) Last known good configuration (advanced) Directory services restore mode Debigging mode Disable automatic restart on sustem failure Disable driver signature enforcement Start windows normally These are the options im presented with, as said safe mode does the same, and the last good configuration does the same

Scott
Last good configuration has probably fooked your install, it did to me. Do you have a vista install disc? You can repair the startup via that.

Scott
Legally yes Unless there is a hidden partition on the laptop, in which case all you would need is a recovery disc from the manufacturer.
Smallshinyant
You might be lucky with a self recovery option. When the computer boots and you get the BIOS post screen. Is there an option that says something like press F10 for recovery . What make is it?
edinlexusV8
I had exactly the same problem with my partner's acer, it was an old laptop so gave up after a few tries and got her a new Sony in cherry red. She loves it to bits ... end of the problem for me!
Scott
Can I have the old Acer?
MaveriK
Try F8 and then safe mode command prompt only. If that lets you get in then reply back, we can then edit your registry to stop anything starting that may cause the hang

Scott
I'm curious, why are you posting the same thing?
Smallshinyant
You need it to boot of the CD. Stick the disk in and should ask "Press and key to boot from CD" you will want to do that. If it does not ask you that, you will want to check the boot options in the BIOS.
