Matt H
I visited a website last night and as soon as the home page loaded, a pop-up type of screen showed up covering the entire webpage. Scrolling up and down only made it follow me. I couldn’t work out a way of getting rid of it without actually just clicking the link. This really p!ssed me off and made the site unusable. Is there a way of closing these types of pop-ups? I think they’re Java Script.

martini
Really, is that because it's not exactly legal dealings or is it full of computer nasties? It's because you don't know how to use the internet.
Attero
Are you talking about a "same-page" pop-up? Basically it's not a new window that pops up but a JavaScript image/box that pops up in the same page instead? If this is the case it could be difficult to get rid off. You would have to actually know JavaScript in order to get rid of it and it would be different for every site. Pop-up blockers will not work with these types of advertisements because technically aren't pop-ups.

They might as well just re-direct you to the other site as they're pretty much nothing else you can.
Attero
They will normally give you some form of an X to click on to remove it. Sometimes it's really hard to find.

Attero
They are really distracting and they lose a lot of visitors over it. I don't know why they choose to advertise this way. I normally just leave immedietely.

Attero
Java and JavaScript are two different things. If you were to disable JavaScript yes - but you have to realise that you might be accessing a page which requires JavaScript to run and so you might not actually be able to access anything. Purity14
Seriously and with no prejudice, you should spend some time learning how the internet works if you want to visit sites that arent legit.
