Tricky-Ricky
This one is driving me nuts, went to One click movies to see what was on offer, and saw that there where two "Predators" downloads, now i have downloaded loads of films from this site with no problems, but this one threw up a virus alert, So now i have my Avira free keep popping up Guard alerts, say that i have anything from 2 to 1800 odd viruses/malware, and then goes into system scan and does the same again every couple of minutes! Now i have run Malwarebytes and it found two Trojans, which it removed, and i am trying to run a full scan with Avira while the Avira guard is continually scanning and popping up these dam alerts, but it never seems to catch up with the amount of viruses, so i suspect that its a virus that is causing the Avira guard odd behavior, any ideas??? Wez
The best I have found so far is Malwarebytes http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4716-malwarebytes-anti-malware.html
Tricky-Ricky
Already scanned with Malwarebytes, and it found two and removed them, this is only being picked up with the guard monitor of the Avira, the main system scan so far hasn't picked anything up, so far. Marty
I managed to catch a trojan or ten last week whilst searching the net for clutch prices The trojan killed my java and was sending me to different web pages everytime i went online. I run a program called winpatrol, it monitors your system and tells you if anything is trying to alter anything, and asks whether to let it. This went mad and told me about some random files trying to get themselves in the startup, also it was trying to put webpages in the scheduled tasks. So i blocked them files using winpatrol, then ran a virus scan. My trusty Avg could pick it up the viruses but couldn't remove them, same with malwarebytes, spybot, trend micro, etc etc. I tried numerous others until i came across kaspersky, i downloaded the trial version of that and did a deep system scan with it. It found quite a few trojans nestled all over the system, and removed them all with no problem, then it put my system back to how it was before the virus. Well impressed. I'm disappointed my AVG didn't crack this virus, as it had did me proud for 6years of pc'ing, but hats off to Kaspersky, if you've not managed to get rid of the trojan mate, i've no doubt the trial version of Kaspersky 2011 will remove it with ease. I'd also highly recommend downloading winpatrol if you've not already got it, very very handy little bit of software.

Smallshinyant
If your on win7 or vista, pick up microsoft security essentials. If you have got something already, and use your machine to make card payments or do online banking i would wipe it and start again, its the only way you have any thought of guarantee that your clear(and even then :-\ ). The first bit of malware is often just used as a gateway to bring in other items.

Marty
You must have some nasty ass critters then. Would about running the Windows malicious software removal tool? I did mate it was a trojan horse agent 2 something or other, worst one ive come across, was nearly at the point of wiping hard drive and starting again. Usually Avg has managed to remove all the viruses i've had. That superantispyware one also found it, but didn't locate the source files, so when i rebooted my pc it put itself back on I'm running XP, not sure if i've got the windows malicious software removal tool? Well i have dumped Avira for the time being and downloaded Kapasky, and its busy finding lots of various threats, just hope at the end of all the scans i can get shot of the problems, and just hope that no serious harm has come of it. How'd you get on? Hope its gone

VIL
This may help. Run the Mcafee Stinger on your machine, download at http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ Note this is a free clean up utility from McAfee Once run it should identify the malware and clean if it can (note this can take a while). I would then update your AV and run another scan to be sure. The problem you have is there is most likely an open backdoor now on your machine so no matter how many times you try to remove the problem you get a re-infection. If so then you have little choice but to rebuild your machine. Hope it helps.
Matt H
This kinda thread is making me want to look at updating my virus protection.
Ian C
I haven't run a virus scanner of any sort for over four years and I've remained squeaky clean I plonked on AVG free for a thorough scan recently, no problems found, uninstalled it again. I think it's a combo of: 1) Router's hardware firewall/NAT 2) Not downloading any hooky software/cracks/games/films/tv etc etc 3) Not opening any suspicious anythings ever in email, or clicking on suspect links 4) choosing my porn sites carefully I've reinstalled my OS twice in this time, once for a suspected OS prob that turned out to be a dodgy gfx card and once because I swapped motherboards and righty royally broke Windows My opinion, based on far too many years experience at home and in the trade, is that virus scanners and software firewalls are one of the biggest contributers to OS problems, poor performance, and general malaise in computers. However, if you aren't comfortable with frantically formatting your hard drive and reinstalling from the ground up if anything DOES take a hold, stick with running a scanner at all times -Ian
GlennK
Run KAV (Kaspersky) Full Scan with security level set to High, and then go to scope and advanced tabs and select: All files Heuristic analysis = Deep scan Rootkit scan = Deep scan iSwift, iChecker both selected Then let it run overnight. Should be sorted in the morning...

CPU usage is a steady 4%, ram usage is a bit high at 37%.... all at idle. Havent had any kind of virus running this little lot for a very long time. I also run trend micro housecall every now and again just to make sure nothing has sneaked past!
Matt H
4) choosing my porn sites carefully What would you recommend Ian?
Tricky-Ricky
Well Kaspersky has now been uninstalled, talk about processor hungry! it was running my dual core laptop near full whack most of the time, and besides that after running a couple of scans it would throw up a warning but from what i could see didn't actually remove the problems, and then it seemed like you had to remove each threat manually, back with Avira now.
