Apexi active tail silencer

Where are you getting this from?

 

How do you fit them? I only need to put one in for half an hour every 2 years to get threw the NCT (MOT) so hopefully not too much messing around.

Would the EGT be alright if the car was only ticking over for about 30 mins? Just long enought to pass the DB test in the NCT

Mine is on an N/A, and definitely improves bottom end torque without any top end loss, in fact it feels quicker with it.

 

7dB makes a BIG difference to the noise, and it removes the low drone too.

 

No worries with EGT at tickover.

 

When you open up the engine, the valve opens up and lets the noise out, but nice and quiet around town and at cruise, you might even like it.

Ah the only thing about this is the NCT test the car at 3/4 of the cars rev limit. I'm guessing the valve would be open & just as loud as it is now?

yes but its not going to be under any load, the bung will be fine for your purposes

Yes but it has a spring in it that opens under exhaust gas pressure, so at low rpms it is quiet, but at higher rpms it opens to become more freer flowing.

Revving whilst stationary does not open it.

 

On the move when under load it opens.

There are 2 sizes, mine is the larger @ 115mm, the smaller size is 90mm.

Dreadful idea, just like adding a tiny restrictor ring. You need proper silencers that absorb sound not restrictions. If the opening is small it's robbing efficiency, on or off boost, spring loaded or fixed. Why is it that as car models get older and cheaper owners feel the need to make them noisier and noisier? There was never this obsession with noisy exhausts a few years back when the cars were a lot newer.

Just put a Tanabe Medallion Touring (or equivalent) on and be done with it

I have tried both, but this system is quieter around town and when cruising, sounds better at WOT and the engine performs better too.

 

But mine is an N/A.
