Nodalmighty
I've got to change the oil and the oil and diesel filter on the Passat this weekend. Should go a bit better after that. Don't mock she a pump deuce 130 sport with 6 speed box and everything. Speaking of which, has anyone ever had a gearbox that only has grumpy sycro's then the box was cold? Then cold second offers no resistance to selection and crunches, third will crunch when going from 6,5 or 4. Once the car has been driven, it stops doing it and behaves. ??????? I will be seeing my gearbox and engine man TonyG tonight (Ex ProDrive WRC & Ex Rogue Motorsport), maybe he will shed some light on it. Chris Wilson
The thinner gearbox oil is the less drag it induces, hence ATF in some transmissions that seek least drag for maximum MPG. So if the synchros are weak it WILL crunch more when cold as the oil is more viscous. This is why people claim Redline effects a miracle cure for crunchy synchros. No miracle, it's just thinner so the tired synchro cones have less work to do tying up the hub speeds.

Nodalmighty
SUPRA chat? Your thread is about a Passat, right? Hmmm!, you might have a point there. In which case, does anyone know if the Soarer's A340E mechanical valve block will fit on the A340E Supra box replacing the electronic accumulator and line pressure solenoids? Nodalmighty
Petrol+match=BIG FIRE:d The Passat is my Wife's I don't own a car currently. However, I'm toying with the idea of either a Passat Estate W8 or V6 30v 4Motion tiptronic. A couple of GT28RS76's on either would be a sleeper and then some (especially when I put the TDI badge on the back). Alternatively, My Lexus V8 & twin CT20b's into a lesser 4motion model like the TDI version and RWD only or even a 2JZ.
Miguel
A W8 Passat with a couple of hair dryers bolted to it sounds like and interesting concept.
